10×10: Innovative Take at Delivering News to the 5800
Filed Under Nokia 5800 Applications
10×10! Is that a grid size or something? That’s what we first thought when we first saw this app at the ovi store. Intrigued by its name, we decided to take the plunge into the app and see what it has to offer and we are kinda glad we dived in, for 10×10 takes a fresh look at news, of which an awful lot is covered in several media today.
So what does 10×10 really do? True to its name it delivers “100 Words and Pictures that Define the Time” on your 5800s. So basically what we are looking at is photo journalism with a touch of difference for it’s delivered straight on to your 5800s. Sounds interesting, ain’t it? Find out more about this innovative app in our brief review after the break.
Screenshots-
The very homescreen speaks for itself what the app is all about. In what’s a “no frills” UI, the app just displays panels of images captured across the world and tapping on each will reveal a preview and a second tap will blow up the image fullscreen in the landscape mode and also reveals the keyword for the image. Further there are options to select news pertaining to a particular day from a Julian calendar. The demo video below should answer any doubts you have on using this app.

What we like?
- Appealing UI
- Innovative concept
What we don’t like?
- Absence of embedded links to the actual news report
Verdict
Though we are impressed by this innovative app, we think this is kinda incomplete though for it’s not possible to access the news story behind the image, which makes us kinda wonder the rationale behind the whole app. Make no mistake, the concept is very innovative and its just that it leaves us wondering what story the image was trying to tell. Add embedded links and we definitely have a killer news app here. But, the creators of 10×10 think otherwise and have been gaining some traction with their popular website offering the same service. Let’s hope the developers add the embedded links in the future releases and even in its absence, the app is worth a try on your 5800s.
10×10 can be downloaded for free from the Ovi store
