Well guys, 2009 was a great year for us, thanks to your continuous support, and just to prove that we haven’t forgotten our readers, we are back with the first Tube5800 contest of 2010. Before we head on to the contest details, let us throw some light on the year 2009 was for our Tube 5800. The year 2009 saw our dear Nokia 5800 penetrating almost every conceivable market across the globe. Thanks to patrons like you, 5800 even made it to the top spot in Europe’s best selling pay-by-monthy phones. Yeah, Skyfire-the only other mobile browser (other than symbian and microB), capable of rendering flash content on mobile devices is now available for symbian fifth edition device, still in 1.5beta though. We were hoping something like this would happen but we would be lying to you if we claim to have smelled this before Nokia left this cat out a couple of days ago.  Yeah, we are talking about the new avatar of Ovi Maps offering  free turn-by-tun voice guided navigation across 74 countries in 46 languages.

The latest move by Nokia is taking the navigation tools competition to a new level, a level very few services can sustain. Google started the trend with its similar free service in the US with its android app but Nokia beat them hands down, by offering a similar service across the globe and going by the present market penetration of Nokia devices, it’s anybody’s guess which is going to shape the navigation industry in the long-run. Total Recall is amazing stuff and no we are not talking about that Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie of the early 90s but a killer app from none other than Killer Mobile. If you have had a symbian phone before, you would have probably heard or had this app on your phone for this is one of the most popular apps on symbian front.

When you read/hear Las Vegas, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Casinos and the bubbly nightlife right? Well, the same Vegas has been doing the rounds on the web but for a totally different reason this time around, courtesy Consumer Electronics Show or CES 2010 which recently concluded in the US abode of casinos and yeah Nokia did have a device or two up its sleeves but that’s not what we are gonna talk about here. We were more than amazed by this little preview of a promising game from Nokia- Bounce Boing Battle, which is a welcome addition to the gaming scenario on 5800s.

The game which brings real time interactive multi-player gaming to 5800s will be available for free on the Ovi store soon and is the latest addition to Bounce series of games, which are pre-installed on every symbian fifth edition and maemo 5 devices. We just got the BREAKING NEWS we all were dying to hear since long. Yeah, the much awaited Firmware Update v40 finally lands at our Nokia 5800. The update brings with it Kinetic Scrolling and a New Home Screen similar to 5530’s.

The update has just started rolling out and is not yet available in all parts of the world. Do check on your 5800 if its available for you via OTA (Over the Air) or NSU (Nokia Software Updater). The update also reportedly fixes dozens of minor bugs and adds some performance improvements. Read more »
