Just when you were about to write 5800s off, our Finnish friends have shown us just how much they really care for us with their latest firmware release for 5800. Numbered v52.0.0.007, the latest firmware brings in some bug fixes and minor optimizations.
Two years on, it goes on to show the commitment of the world’s leading handset manufacturer in supporting its debutante in the then emerging touchscreen segment which has now become the mainstay of mobile electronics. And true to the spirits of our blog, we are back with what we do the best: bringing the latest 5800 news to our followers. So yeah, do hit on the read button for more info on the firmware including the changelog.Screenshots-

How to update? (If you don’t already know by now)
via FOTA: Type *#0000#
Tap on Check for updates
Follow the onscreen instructions
via NSU: Connect your 5800
Select Check for updates
Follow the onscreen instructions
What we think about it?
To be honest v52 doesn’t bring any notable additions to our 5800s but then bug fixes and speed optimizations are more than welcome especially considering the fact that 5800 was released way back in 2008 and it’s still going good. Show us another manufacturer or model which continues to get continued firmware updates! We noticed improved free memory after the update along with general improvements in speed of response. The browser has been updated to v7.2.6.9 and Ovi Maps to v3.04 10. Notable drawbacks include absence of Nokia mail and as argo reports at AAS, the “recently added” tab in podcasts section has been removed, much to the inconvenience of regular podcast listeners like us.
Since there is no official changelog as such, our friends at DailyMobile report the following changes:
- Upgrade CPU performance
- Enhanced touch screen
- Improve wifi, connection error Ovi Store
- Rotate Enhanced
- Software Map added
- V52 pictures and movies better!
- No Nokia Email
- Interface does not change!
While we are still getting a hang of the new firmware, keep the comments pouring in telling us how you are loving or hating the v52 firmware.

hey guys …
i live in spain and we are still stuck here with version 50.0.005 …
… nokia says that this is up to the provider (telefonica) … can i still get the 52.0.0.007 from somewhere else and if i do install it, will it cause problems with my provider (like crashes and such)? …
Monday, November 29th, 2010 at 7:14 am
even nokia site doesn’t have this version
Monday, November 29th, 2010 at 2:33 pm
That’s great. The free memory is fantastic. The CPU speed is really improved. There is no especial feature on it, but Nokia prove its loyalty to its customers. I will go for Nokia for sure in my next cell-phone purchase. I always love Nokia and defend its products.

if you look at the history of 5800 updats then you’ll notice that nokia is in the habit of launching minor update just a few months before releasing any major updates. Just like you’d clean up your house before buying new furniture. So, (being optimistic here) we can expect some major update just around the corner. I know expecting widget home screen et al is asking for too much, but keeping my fingers crossed.xx

Touch Screen Vibration are swapped for Level 1 and 2. (same issue was seen with f/w v50)…
Little improvement on speed side…
I know Nokia is not going to provide widget screen for this device but I’ll still wait for it.
Friday, December 3rd, 2010 at 4:14 am
perhaps we will expect all the updates to be available next year

This update was a brilliant move by Nokia, considering how many millions of 5800XM were sold around the world. It keeps loyal 5800XM owners enthusiastic with Nokia’s commitment…but it also checks the moves by modders to give the venerable 5800XM new life. That’s right…it keeps 5800XM owners from experiencing homescreen widgets by trapping them away from a custom firmware upgrade. Most CFW’s based on C6-00 will require v.51 or less on the 5800 to install. If you upgrade to v.52, you will not be able to get cfw homescreen widgets, more free RAM, more free NAND, a better camera performance, and pretty good battery performance. Some modders may go ahead and bake new custom firmware…but that’s a lot of gratuitous work to keep up with Nokia’s firmware tactic. Nokia’s hoping you get tired of the traditional 5800 and go for a newer Symbian^3 (e.g.: C6-01). It’s simply a good business move by Nokia.

i updated my 5800 yesterday, the ovi map was much better and accurate, the screen rotation was a bit faster to rotate, the web was defaulted to full screen which is dont like, and the theme effects lost some of its effect, and the worst thing is when you are going to write an SMS it took me years to open the write message…
Tuesday, December 21st, 2010 at 8:18 am
i’m disappointed that these updates from nokia are not applicable to all even to different places.
Saturday, December 25th, 2010 at 12:56 am
