Do you remember the last accelerometer based game for our Tube 5800s? There is only one that we can think of- Marble Maze, an excellent adaptation of the classic labyrinth game. While the game figures in our top ten games, Offscreen Technologies who have made it a habit of churning out top grade apps/games for the symbian fifth edition platform, are attempting to unseat Marble Maze from its perch with their latest game- Labyrinth.
If you still haven’t tried Marble Maze yet, you can download this game from here. Hit the jump button to see whether Offscreen Technologies have packed yet another winner in their Labyrinth.
Screenshots-

We tried the free version of the game-Labyrinth Lite available as a free download from ovi store before plunging into the full version and here is what we have to say about this game: The free version offers three mazes with increasing difficulties and game play is moderate. We are saying moderate as we were not very much impressed with the sychronisation of accelerometer within the game. Marble Maze was more responsive in our view.
Further the different ball options in Marble Maze added to the versatility of the game, which is something we don’t see in Labyrinth (It does offer different balls for different mazes but the difference is hardly noticeable or rather we weren’t able to gauge correctly as each ball is fixed to a certain maze).
On a positive note, we are very much impressed by the design and layout of the game. The game difficulty has been optimized to appeal to all levels of gamers. Only if the developers could fine-tune the accelerometer syncing with the game, could we call it a definite winner over Marble Maze.
What we like?
- Cool graphics and interface
- Optimum difficulty settings for each maze
What we hate?
- Accelerometer movements seem to be out of sync (at times, not always)
- Inability to select a ball for each maze
Verdict
Labyrinth is a good attempt from Offscreen Technologies and it does impress us in bits and pieces. Marble Maze has definitely set high standards for a labyrinth game and Offscreen Technologies is just not able to meet these standards this time around. Graphics tends to frame at times and movements seem to be out of sync, again intermittently much to the annoyance of the gamer. While Labyrinth Lite is definitely worth a download (its free, nothing wrong in trying, right?), we would advice our readers to stick with Marble Maze for their daily dose of labyrinth on their Tube 5800s.
Labyrinth Lite can be downloaded for free from Ovi webstore (don’t forget to login).
P.S-The above review is based on the free version of Labyrinth-Labyrinth Lite.
