Good news: There is a new firmware update released for Nokia 5800 today. This latest firmware version is v31.0.101. The update is available via Nokia Software Updater (NSU) and Over-The-Air (OTA) for some product codes.
Bad News: The update is a minor one (like the previous update) with no big improvements and no official changelog. The update fixes few minor bugs and some speed improvement is also noticed. But of course, there is still no sign of the kinetic scrolling or widgetized homescreen. Check the product codes list below and see if the update is available for you.

How to Update:
The firmware update should be available for you by one of the following methods-
1) Via Over the Air (FOTA): Just enter *#0000# on your dial screen of your phone, then go to options- check for updates.
2) Via Nokia Software Updater (NSU) Utility: Download the NSU here if you dont have already. Connect your device to your PC/ Laptop, start NSU and check for update.
If both the above methods does not work for you, the update may not be available for you yet. Check at Nokia site by entering your product code if the update is available for you.
Note: Backup your data before updating the phone, just in case if anything wrong goes while doing the process.

My autorotate doesn’t work properly. I know the accelerometers work fine because apps that use accelerometers work fine (like the Ofscreen “level”). And when autorotate stops working, I have to restart the phone and it’s back. I’ve been hoping to see it fixed in some firmware, but it appears Nokia takes no notice of Canada
So waiting for one of the newer fw’s to see if it’s been fixed.

earlier today i was on PC Suit and it notified me of a new update to my cell but i ignored, and now after i read the article i went OTA but there was no update available…
anyway i guess i’ll have to update the software manually like i do everytime, by flashing the handset, coz everytime there’s a firmware update it takes a century to be available for my product code, and hence i download the software with compatible language set and flash it using the cable and the JAF program and it works

@Illu : it’s not really jailbreaking it’s only flashing the regional number.
I’m french so I’ve only got french tutorials but by searching “changing regional number nokia 5800″ on Google I think you will be able to find a tutorial in your language. It’s safe and took me something like 10 minutes !
But I think the update is not on every server because my flashed regional number is “0558982: Euro1 RED” and OTA says that no update is available… Kinda weird coz I got every update first before…
Anyway, no kinetic scrolling or widgets so the update doesn’t seems so much important for since I’m actually on V31.0.008 !

juz update it … my code is 0573786 .. but i do experience some problem .. that is after the firmware upgrade it will suddenly turn of it self … it happen twice in three hour time .. so now i do a soft reset …. n it didn’t happen again .. hopefully this will fix the problem

the problem is, i already tried – and had vista x64 running
now i got windows 7 x64 running
the flashing software does not seem to run on these systems :/
and for just flashing my phone, installing everything to a xp computer that doesn’t belong to me, well… not a good idea :/
that’s why i asked about a guide, or a way to do that on win7 x64 :/

Installed the firmware, nothing seems to have changed. A small bug where wireless access points were sometimes not found on the first try seems to be gone, but can’t tell for sure yet.
@NiceOne: if the NSU installer bitches about being incompatible with the OS on Windows 7 x64, just set it to Vista SP2 compatibility mode and run it, it will install and work without a problem.

@Illu&ElMatador : For the compatibility problem NSU indeed doesn’t work on 7 but I still have my dual boot with Vista 32 bits on my ex Raptor (SSD & 7 FTW !!! <3) so I’m doing everything on Vista 32 !
Anyway yesterday NSU didn’t want to start so i’ll be trying again this evening !
But I still want kinetic scrolliiiiiiiiiiing ! XD

I noticed NOKIA fix the lock phone he tends to be stuck very often in lock mode before and surprising boost speed. If you are unable to update you have to change the Product Code with NSS in 4 easy steps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wef5kV9nCc – NSS Install tutorial ).
I did that and I could jump over 2 versions Firmware Update directly to v31.0.101 are from Romania and the phone is taken from France try this method and good luck

I hope that you can help me with something. after updating my 5800 with the 31.0.101 I noticed something strange. my dialler and contacts icons on my home screen don’t work.when i select them a small bar appears above. any suggestions? I just don;t know what to do.I can’t even dial a number.

@Bubbix- You need to hard reset your phone to completely get rid of this problem. Backup your data first.
If you dont wanna do that, you can still get the dialler screen by pressing MENU and then the green button.
Alternatively, try using the “contacts bar” homescreen, that should make your dial and phonebook icons active. Menu- Settings- Personal- Home Screen- Home Screen Theme- Contacts Bar.

The only dramatic difference I noticed is that it got much, much faster in displaing thumbs in photo browser and gallery.
It also seems to me it’s slightly faster between menus and in opening apps.

VERY STRANGE
Hello guys there is somethg strange with my 5800 i am in GERMANY and i updated my phone from a month ago to version 31 but somthg happened to the phone and i send it to the nokia service and when i received it back it was version 30. and i wonder why when i try to update it again it say no available update although i did it from long time but there is somthg strange my language packet right now is 02 instead of 01 is it a reason that i am not able to update my software plz guys if some one has some infos plz post somthg I need your HELP thanks a lot,,,

try Nemesis Service Suite from http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/
Install default installation, disconnect phone.
Start NSS, connect your Phone, click scan for phone.
Under Phone Info you can read your product code and change it (check Enable) and change the product code with write..
I changed to Euro 1 Blue now it works… update in progress.
