Missing that power management suite of your notebook/macbook on your 5800? We are in luck as Ravensoft have just come up with a solution for us. Titled Battery Extender this is one of the power management solutions that actually works!
Battery technology which is yet to cope up with the rapid advances in electronics industry continues to be the limiting factor for almost every mobile device today. While the battery technology may take sometime to catch up with the electronics industry, developers have time and again delivered solutions for efficient power management on mobile devices. Now that we have one for our 5800, lets see how this fares on our 5800s.
Screenshots-

The app features five profiles including one customizable profile which allows users to tailor-fit a battery management profile depending on their liking. We are more than happy with the four pre-defined profiles for our battery management needs. While the profiles are self-explanatory, we tested the Max-battery profile for over two days and are very impressed with the results.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and fortunately even developers at Ravensoft think so and have included a graph showing estimated battery life under different profiles. We are certainly impressed by this option. While we couldn’t verify the estimates as they represent idle battery life spans, but we think they are quiet representative.
What we like?
- Ease of use
- Customization options
What we dont like?
- Interface could have been better
- Free version lasts for 14 days only and full version is costly
Verdict
Power management or Battery management solutions, a genre which has been missing on 5800 and symbian fifth edition platform now has a welcome addition in Battery Extender. Thanks to Ravensoft, 5800 now has a battery management solution that actually works. But the price tag of €10 is quite disappointing. A 14 day free trial of the application is available as a free download from the ovi store.
