Rose Passion- Morkino Brings the Warmth of Roses to 5800s

You need not wait for the Valentine’s day to dress up your 5800s with roses, for Morkino has released one of the best pink schemed themes for 5800s, which has been titled Rose Passion. Apart from bringing the warmth and passion of Roses to your 5800s, what’s really refreshing is the Pink colour scheme which even guys can pull off on their 5800s!

We know it’s not exactly the season for roses for this is no Valentine’s day, but for those who are with their special ones, everyday is a reason to celebrate and with the wedding season going in full swing in India and elsewhere, you have more than one reasons to sport roses on your 5800s. Morkino keeps impressing us with their good work: first it was the Blue Pearl which woke us up to their existence and now with Rose Passion Morkino is yearning to be considered in the same class as that of Pizero and Tehkseven. Rose Passion has everything from impressive colour scheme to attractive icons.

What we like?

3D like icons
Not overly feminine tone for a pink colour scheme

What we don’t like?

No decent bundled wallpaper to go with the colour scheme

Verdict

We know a lot of guys shy away from Pink and we do have a few in our team who suffer from the same phobia but Rose Passion is one of those rare themes which both the sexes can pull off on their 5800s without having to worry about the feminist tone of the colour scheme. The font styles, the clock design and the keypad are all very well done and we really don’t have much to complain about this theme.

Android Theme by Mandeep- Cupcake for 5800s!

Feeling like having some cupcake or donut for coffee today? How about some eclairs? You got it right, we are talking about different versions of Android out there in the wild and not any of those mouth-watering desserts. However, if we have already set you salivating, let us pacify by telling you that it’s now possible to get these desserts, sorry these android UIs on our 5800s. Nah, we are not talking about any fancy emulators here, just a well done theme is what we need, and looks like Mandeep has got the right recipe for android desserts on your 5800s!

Android by Mandeep is an excellent imitation of the Android UI and though is nowhere near the android emulator, we reviewed earlier, it has got loads of eye-candy and appeal. Read on for a brief review of this theme.

Screenshots-

Well that must have given you an idea on what to expect from the theme. The overall theme design is nothing fancy. Mandeep has just concentrated on giving your 5800s the look and feel of android UI and we must confess he has done a great job at it. The icons and the pull up menu have been done very well and a non android user may actually fall for it. But a regular android user will not fall for the trick.

What we like?

A very good imitation of the android UI
Light on memory, loads super fast

What we don’t like?

Icons have that pixelated look (may be thats how the icons are for andriod UI!)

Verdict

Like we said before, the theme is nowhere near the android emulator by MMMOOO, which has its own share of glitches, but we are definitely impressed by the imitation job of Mandeep. The fact that it’s just a theme is a deal breaker, for it doesn’t drain the battery as the flash based emulator of MMMOOO does, and just has the right mix to fool some of your gullible friends into believing you actually run android on your 5800s! In all its a great theme for 5800ers.

Blue Pearl- Refreshing New Theme for 5800s

It’s been a while since we saw a really impressive theme from someone other than the BIG TWO of Symbian themes. We are referring to Pizero and TehkSeven ofcourse and the theme that has really caught our attention goes by the name of Blue Pearl by Morkino. They are one of the relatively new theme designers and though this is not the first work we have seen of theirs, this is definitely the best we have seen from them.

Before we move on to our review on this eye-catching theme, we should highlight to our readers that our previously reviewed theme- Earth by none other than Pizero has more than a million official downloads from the Ovi store. A million downloads aside, does the theme from Morkino, has what it takes to stand out among the great works of Pizero and TehkSeven? Let’s find out after the break.

As you can see for yourself the eye-candy is pretty much obvious from the assortment of screenshots included in the preview. It has everything with customized icons to glittery buttons to an attractive colour scheme.

What we like?

Glittery buttons just steal the show!

Looks out of place on a red Tube 5800

Verdict

We have been pretty much praising about this theme all throughout and there is no reason for us not to do the same in our conclusion. Spare the Red 5800ers, we would not even as much as blink before recommending this theme to our fellow 5800ers. We can assure you that this is definitely one of the best free themes available for our 5800s today.

Gear up for the Earth Hour with Pizero’s Earth Theme

Today, the 27th of March 2010 happens to be the Earth Hour and if you still happen to have not heard about it, let us throw some light on it: it’s a worldwide campaign to cut down the Green House Gas Emissions by switching off all the lights for one hour, which is designated for your region by the local Earth Hour chapter. Head to Earth Hour Glogal portal now to pledge your support and join hands with the rest of the world in this eco-initiative.

We at Tube5800, thought we should take this initiative a little further and just when we were wondering what we could do about it, we stumbled upon this great theme from none other than the Theme master- Pizero, going by the name of Earth, which has been available for free at Ovi Store for a while now. Find out more about this theme and how this theme will help you in cutting down on GHG emissions after the break.

First let’s talk about the theme: without doubt Pizero is one of the best theme designers for Symbian platform and he has proved his mantle once again with another eye-candy theme: Earth. If the wallpaper, which is also the background for message window and Menu screen catches your imagination, the keyboard and keypad designs and colour contrasts will take your breath away.

Now, coming to the eco-friendliness of this theme: the dark hues translates into lower battery usage, which means reduced charging frequency. This not only means cutting down on the dreaded GHGs but also extended battery life for your 5800s. Some of you may argue that just a dark wallpaper and theme doesn’t do much to extend the battery life but even a small reduction is a big difference considering the millions of 5800 users out there.

What we like?

What we don’t like?

Default symbian icons (Guess, Pizero will release the customized icons in a paid version of the theme)

Verdict

Earth is definitely one of the best themes we have seen for our 5800s and is definitely staying on our 5800s for well beyond the Earth Hour and we definitely recommend this theme for our readers. Symbian^3 on 5800! Just a Theme Though

Heard about the Symbian^3 and wondering if you would ever get it on your 5800? Well, you don’t have to wait for long for Theme Master AJ23 over at AJ23 blog has skimmed some of the visual elements of Symbian^3 as a theme for our 5800s and other symbian 5th and even 3rd edition devices.

While it’s no doubt that the Symbian^3 announcement has taken the mobile industry by a storm with inclusion of some of the most sought-after features, the recent announcement of Symbian^4 has taken the Symbian platform to an all new level. So while the Nokia engineers and hackers break their sweat over coding and porting atleast one of these platforms to our 5800s, let’s enjoy the theme on our 5800s.

Now that looks appealing, doesn’t it? Well yeah, it doesn’t have the high gloss and design of some of the top themes from Babi or TehkSeven but it does a great job of mimicking the UI or rather the colour scheme of Symbian^3 on the symbian 5th and 3rd edition devices. Some of the customized icons are well-designed and the designer does deserve a little credit for the icons and the dual-colour QWERTY keyboard.

What we like?

Good colour scheme (matches well with the released Symbian^4 UI)
Well-designed icons

What we don’t like?

Absence of customized icons to some of the popular third-party applications
Background not as appealing as the ones in top themes

Verdict

We would rather say that the Symbian^3 theme will be a fad, with some enthusiasts downloading and using the theme for a week or two after the announcement and may be later when the full Symbian^3 platform is released to the market.

Theme Review: Maemo Arena for S60 5th Edition

No, nobody has ported Maemo 5 to our 5800s (yet!) but symbian theme designer Mandeep and FoneArena have released Maemo Arena, a symbian theme heavily inspired by the UI elements of Maemo 5.

Now only if some hacker would port the Maemo 5 OS to the 5800s, would we get the features like kinetic scrolling and skype integration on our 5800s but till then we have to be happy with this Maemo Arena theme, which we have to confess is as close as symbian UI can ever get to the Maemo UI, that is at the time being. Doesn’t that look exactly like the menu screen on the Maemo 5? We are talking about that menu screen in the landscape mode on our 5800s. Infact it would be hard to spot the difference between a symbian phone running this theme and an actual Maemo 5 device, unless you have both at your arm’s reach. Great work Mandeep!

What we like?

Cool Maemo 5 wallpaper
Menu screen in landscape mode just looks “maemo”some!

What we don’t like?

White text has very low visibility with the present maemo wallpaper and hence shortcuts homescreen is largely unreadable

Verdict

As we have said earlier Maemo Arena is as close as we can get to the Maemo UI on our 5800 and that it is until some hacker is able to port the Maemo 5 OS to our 5800s, the chances of which are lets say not very encouraging. If you have been following the development of Maemo, you would know that this is one of the most happening platforms in the mobile industry today.

Just Black- Superlight Theme for Nokia 5800

Seems like TehkSeven is on a roll in the recent times; after releasing Maemo 5 for the symbian devices, the master theme developer is back with another beauty- Just Black, one of the lightest themes we have seen on this platform.

If you are one of those 5800ers who like to load their devices with an unprecedented amount of applications, you would know what a heavy toll these applications take on the available RAM of our 5800s. Looks like TehkSeven can identify with such 5800ers and has come up with this amazingly light theme for the symbian community. Anybody wanna take a guess on the size of this theme? 280 kb is all it is and it does pack a stunning set of visuals for your 5800s. While the plain black wallpaper may not appeal to the aesthetic senses of everyone, we should tell you that its super-light on battery consumption too. So there you go, not only you have an eye-candy theme but also eco-friendly and comes in very handy when you are traveling.

What we like?

Absence of customized icons in the menu (May be thats a compromise TehkSeven had to make to keep the theme under 300kb)

Verdict

If you are someone who has like a hundred apps (very much like us) on your 5800s, you would love to have this theme on your 5800. If that plain black wallpaper is not upto your liking, you can always replace it with one of the wallpapers from our earlier collections that go well with the overall theme colour scheme.

Theme Review: Maemo 5 by TehkSeven

Being 5800 fans, if you are feeling left out on one of the most happening events in the world of smartphones today, you can sit back and relax for we have some Maemo goodies for you.

One of the best known theme developers, TehkSeven is back and back with a bang, we must say for his latest theme maemo 5 is such a beauty! We can see our readers drooling over this theme and you know what to do? Just hit on the read button!

Well, that should give the Maemo fans an eyeful till they get their hands on Nokia N900, which just started shipping, the other day. Coming back to the theme, its 100% SVG, meaning you don’t ever have to bother about pixelated or stretched background images.

For all those 5800ers who may be getting a little insecure with the launch of N900, you can take heart in the fact that our 5800s can always get the look and feel of N900 while otherway around is not possible yet! Evo Bold- Another Stunning Theme from TehkSeven

After covering a refreshing theme in Ovi by Pizero last week, we are back to themes again. This time we are covering another big name in the symbian theme community- TehkSeven.

TehkSeven who is best known for his stunning designs and 3D like icons and buttons in his themes, released his Evo evolution last week. The dark hued theme which packs another eye-candy theme for our 5800s is absolutely dazzling. Screenshots and more details after the break.

Ain’t that simply awesome? We just love the colour scheme and the 3D like feel of the buttons. To add to the 3D aura is the new background which adds third dimension to the screen. Moving on to the keypad, have you seen a better looking keypad on the symbian platform than this? Typing is a delight no doubt and we are not taking about the touchscreen responsiveness whatsoever here.

We were so enticed by these screenshots that we didn’t waste a second before buying this premium theme for our 5800s. Available in two versions: with and without customized icons, Evo Bold is priced reasonably at € 2 for the customized icon version and €1 for the version with default symbian icons. An absolute steal considering the art work and eye-catching design of the theme.

Ovi Theme for Nokia 5800- A Tribute to Nokia World

All excited about the Nokia Event happening in Stuttgart over in Germany? Well, we cannot promise an air-ticket to Germany but yeah we would like to give our best shot for our readers to get a feel of the Nokia extravaganza.

Ovi Theme is yet another masterpiece from the best known name in themes in the Symbian world- yeah you guessed it right, Pizero. If you have been following the Nokia World of which we have been covering a little over the last couple of days, you would have seen Ovi all over the walls, keynotes and almost every publication material that is coming from Stuttgart these days. Thanks to Pizero, now every 5800 can also boast of that Ovi look and feel. Screenshots and more tidbits after the break.

Thats one refreshing theme there, ain’t it? After seeing the above screenshot, We didn’t even think twice before installing this theme on our 5800s and we don’t see any reason our readers shouldn’t. For the benefit of those still undecided, here’s the official description of the theme:
