Good news again! Nokia has released a new firmware update for our Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. The firmware update is v.51.0.006 and its not a major update unfortunately. The minor update contains some performance improvements and bug fixes.

You can download the latest firmware update v51.0.006 Over The Air (OTA) now. Its not available via Nokia Software Updater utility as of yet. Remember the update is not  yet available for all product codes and geographical regions. Check the changelog below. Read more »

Our Norwegian friends from Opera have been all over the news for quiet some time now. First it was the release of their Opera 10.6, which they claim to be the fasted browser on earth! Just over a week after their update for the desktop version, their popular mobile browser-Opera Mini saw an update and as always we are going hands on with it.

The mobile browsers from Opera- the Java based Opera Mini and the beastlier Opera Mobile have been the browser of our choice for quiet sometime now. One of the top VoIP clients for 5800 just got better! Nimbuzz which was the first mainstream VoIP client to hit the symbian scene was recently updated to v2.4, tweaking the popular client to match with the requirements of today’s smartphone user.

This one is for the fans of Nokia Messaging, which we all know is one of the best e-mail solutions for Nokia devices. Adding on to that impressive feature list is the new IM integration which is now in beta testing for Symbian Fifth edition devices.

How about personalising the voice commands to your very own or downloading one of the many options that Nokia has piled up at their servers? Own Voice is what you need, and we are not talking about your vocal chords but the latest app from Nokia which does very much what it’s name stands for.

Before you head to Ovi Store to get this app and add that personal touch to your navigation experience, we should warn you that there are 54 commands in total, so unless you have like half an hour to spare, you are better of downloading some of the voice packs available within the app. What options do users have and how easy is it to add a personal voice pack? The good old Google Maps just got better on the symbian version with the update to v4.1. As seen in its clients across several mobile platforms, voice commands seem to be the theme for mobile applications this season and it finally lands on the Google Maps client for the symbian version.

When it comes to voice commands, differing accents pose a stumbling block, as Microsoft learned when it was pitching Microsoft Dictation as the primary speech-to-text add-on for its Office suite. It’s been a while (three months to be specific), since Nokia last released a firmware update to their best selling touchscreen device-5800Xpress Music and lest you be thinking of Nokia abandoning it’s loyal customer base, we have an update for you. Infact it’s our Finnish friends who have released an update for the 5800 firmware, which to be honest caught us by surprise, considering the update frequency in the recent times for our 5800s.

The latest firmware is v50.0.005 and since Nokia have jumped from v40.*.* to v50.*.*, we are expecting some major improvements. The update is available for a select few product codes (spread across Europe, South America and Asia) at the time of drafting this post and is expected to hit the Nokia Update servers worldwide in a short matter of time. As seen with previous updates, v50.0.005 is available over both Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) and Nokia Software Updater (NSU). While we weren’t able to get the update on our 5800 ourselves, several of our 5800 friends across the globe have been alerting us on the update and we are wasting no time in updating our readers of the same. Have you dropped by the Ovi store since last night? We have been trying in vain till now, for the store was being updated, preventing us and everyone else from accessing the store during the upgrade. Just when we were about to give up today, we were able to access the revamped store and boy, we are delighted by the latest version of the store.
