It’s been a while (three months to be specific), since Nokia last released a firmware update to their best selling touchscreen device-5800Xpress Music and lest you be thinking of Nokia abandoning it’s loyal customer base, we have an update for you. Infact it’s our Finnish friends who have released an update for the 5800 firmware, which to be honest caught us by surprise, considering the update frequency in the recent times for our 5800s.

The latest firmware is v50.0.005 and since Nokia have jumped from v40.*.* to v50.*.*, we are expecting some major improvements. The update is available for a select few product codes (spread across Europe, South America and Asia) at the time of drafting this post and is expected to hit the Nokia Update servers worldwide in a short matter of time. As seen with previous updates, v50.0.005 is available over both Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) and Nokia Software Updater (NSU). While we weren’t able to get the update on our 5800 ourselves, several of our 5800 friends across the globe have been alerting us on the update and we are wasting no time in updating our readers of the same. Have you dropped by the Ovi store since last night? We have been trying in vain till now, for the store was being updated, preventing us and everyone else from accessing the store during the upgrade. Just when we were about to give up today, we were able to access the revamped store and boy, we are delighted by the latest version of the store.

Chances are you haven’t heard of this little app till now, as was the case with us till today. Emoze is an alternative to Nokia Messaging, offering push email and messaging services to Nokia devices. It used to be a paid service till yesterday but they just made it free and honestly it’s a steal.

The Comes With Music Service which opened an all new chapter in the music industry, especially in Europe and Asian markets is all set for a grand change as Nokia hinted at removing the DRM shackles from the tracks downloaded from its online music store.

Rumours of Nokia Music going DRM free first started when Nokia India started mailing out their subscribers late last month, announcing the re-branding of Nokia Music into Ovi Music among other things. This was recently confirmed by  a press statement by Adam Mirabella, director, Global Digital Music Retail, Nokia, who said “We have dialogues going with all of our partners and Digital Rights Management-free (DRM-free) is also on the roadmap for the future integration of ‘Comes With Music’.” More information and the e-mail forwarded by Nokia India after the break. Opera, best known for its light weight browsers on desktop and mobile platforms have recently added another feather in their cap with the release of Opera Mobile 10 beta 3. Yeah, we know it’s still in it’s beta 3, but the inclusion of Flash in this version, makes it all the more exciting in the war of the browsers in the symbian domain.

The last time we covered browsers from Opera, we included both the java based Opera Mini and the stand-alone browser or as AAS puts it “natively coded” Opera Mobile in our review, last year, when the beta 2s were out. More than two months down the line, Opera Mobile has been update to beta 3, while the mini is still in beta 2. Look’s like the Oracle buy out of Sun (developers of Java) is starting to have an impact on java based products! Skype for the Symbian has finally arrived! Yeah, we know we said that before, but we weren’t sure then as it was available only for networks of 3 in Europe and a  few other destinations in late August last year. But the folks at Skype have set things right with the worldwide release of the symbian version of the popular VoIP client.
