Following on the closed heels of the update from Fring, VoIP/IM client Nimbuzz has updated its client for the symbian fifth edition to v2.2 and no they still haven’t added video calls over VoIP but instead they have integrated twitter into their client now, thereby making it the most comprehensive VoIP/IM client on our 5800s.

While we have always wanted one mighty app that can take care of all our VoIP/IM needs, the twitter integration adds a new twist to the story for there are more powerful and (hence paid) standalone twitter clients in the market (Gravity being our favourite) and to be honest, Nimbuzz doesn’t cut it too close to make us shift entirely from Gravity to Nimbuzz. Looks like our friends in the North America just got lucky for Nokia has now officially launched the Navigation Edition of Nokia 5800 in the land of McDonalds and Walmarts.

Along with the chrome bezel along its rim, the navigation edition of Nokia 5800 comes with lifetime license of voice-guided drive and walk navigation in the North Americas (USA and Canada) and an auto kit consisting of Nokia Car Charger (DC-4), Car Holder Pack (CR-103), Rotating swivel adaptor (AD-69) and Easy Mount (HH-17). Looks sweet right and we haven’t even mentioned the price yet. Twitter, which is probably the most happening networking cum micro-blogging service went mobile today, and as usual we gave it a test drive on our 5800s.

It’s not like Twitter was not mobile till today, there have been a considerable number of apps bringing twitter access to 5800ers, Gravity and Tweets60 being our favorites, apart from the twitter service from the browser. However the official twitter web page lacked a mobile version till today and after playing around with it for a couple of hours, we find it largely disappointing. Hit on the jump button to know why. Opera, probably the best known third party browser on the symbian platform keeps getting better by the day! After releasing the first beta of Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 in early November, Opera has now released beta 2 of the two browsers, in just under a month. Somebody is losing sleep over enhancing the browsing experience on our 5800s!

In case you are wondering Opera Mini is the java version and Opera Mobile 10 has been coded in C++. Thats for the geeks; in layman terms Mini is a low end version and can be accessed from a much wider spectrum of mobile phones and Mobile is the high end version, accessible only by some smartphones and yeah our 5800 can use both. Popular VoIP app on the mobile platforms, Fring just got better with the recent update to v4.00.05. The app which we have been often overlooking to Nimbuzz now dislodges Nimbuzz from the top VoIP app for 5800, for its video calls over VoIP functionality, a feature that is available only in Fring as of now.

We have also noticed several other advantages with Fring when compared to Nimbuzz, the most prominent being the data usage during VoIP calls. On an average we found that Nimbuzz uses 4 times more data traffic than Fring for VoIP calls. Thats another reason, to get Fring on your 5800. Wanna know more? Continuing on their efforts of synchronising all their symbian services under the Ovi hood, Nokia have rechristened their Nokia Music application to Nokia Ovi Player.

The latest update to the Nokia Music application, brings the new name along with several other improvements over the previous application. We gotta admit, there is nothing new in the Ovi player to get us all excited about but just the Ovi branding now gives the application a new identity and blends well with the Ovi suite, which was made public recently.
