In case you were wondering, NO, we didn’t forget to host our customary Tube5800 contests, we were, lets just say gearing up for THE CONTEST of Tube5800!
Ever since the day we first heard about 5800, we have always wanted to use it as a mobile media player, which has hardly been the case since our entire collection is in avi format and converting the entire collection to mp4 format is a herculean task, unless you have a supercomputer at your access! So, naturally we were on a lookout for an avi player for our 5800s and we were so impressed by it that we thought we should share it with our readers and here we are hosting the Tube 5800 contest giving away 10 licenses of the ultimate media player for 5800- Mobisystems MobileDVD.

Mobile DVD is a no non-sense media player which excels at doing what its supposed to do, that is play avi files. The progress bar is on the tap and the volume bar is located towards the bottom of the screen, which become visible with a tap on the screen. Another tap and you are back to the full screen mode, as simple as that.
As you may know, the usual avi files are not optmised for viewing on our 5800s and may need conversion to match the 360×640px resolution of our 5800 screens. Mobi Systems seem to have a solution for this too with the converter that comes in the package. Unfortunately the converter doesn’t provide us an option to convert the videos to 360×640px resolution, so we may as well chuck the converter out! We did transfer unconverted videos of 624×352px resolution and we didn’t notice any fall-backs in the playback on our 5800s. So, there you go, we can now play all our media files on our 5800s without having to bother about converting them!

I travel every day for 3 hours to work and back. I use the amazing battery life of 5800 to watch almost one movie every day or either tv series on my mobile. converting them to Mp4 is a huge task. this app looks freaking amazing. i want this pls……………

This app is a god send, ive tried my damned hardest to find something decent to get video on my 5800. At the moment its either 176×144 or a dodgy 3gp, and neither are reliable. I can be geared up to watch a good movie only to be told i cant watch it, its so annoying as i never seem to have time to watch a movie at home, the only real chance i get is on my tube5800. I COULD PUT THIS APP TO SOME REALLY GOOD USE!!! COUNT ME IN!!!

I’m in, I use SymTorrent to download my favorite TV Series (like Dexter) in HD… I use DivX Player WFVirtualKey to watch them but sometimes it is so slow, sometimes crashes… and it sucks… When I have a PC near I use ffmpeg to convert to mp4 and 640×360 resolution or I just watch it right there but I’m lazy and love watch TV Series in my Nokia 5800

I use my 5800 as a video recorder as I do not have the actual one. After taking the video I want to burn it to a CD for viewing in TV. I would use my Office PC to burn the video as I do not have a PC at home. The problem is that, I can not install a video converter in my Office PC due to administrator rights.
So, this pc. of software in my mobile would greatly help me to show my vidoes to my family at home.

I use my 5800 to view movies wherever I go….I need to just load it without converting….that is the reason why I need the MobiDVD player…hope I win..

Hi Tube5800 ! This is my opinion of why i should win this contest: have searched all over the internet on how I can convert a video. I have found something, but it is so hard to understand the instructions for me cause im Norwegian. When i upload a video to my phone the video seems to go soo slowly and whit a bad grapich. Thanks for reading this and ill hope that ill be one of the ten to win this contest.

well…I can really use and AVI player for my nokia phone. Converting all the videos i have is such a pain and thus I have not gotten around converting any. So this would help a lot an i would be able to watch my downloaded videos on my moblie.

Converting AVI to MPG is a time consuming process and takes hours to convert a AVI movie. It will be great to watch AVI movies directly after downloading from the Internet… Thanks

I’m too lazy to convert .avi video files into .mp4 so this app is perfect for me
