Can you ever imagine what will happen to your favorite Nokia 5800 if it goes through some of the extreme stress tests like being spinned in a washing machine, sank in champagne, freezer tests at -20C, sand and dust tests, dropped on ground vertically or even override by a car.
Well you will be surprised that Nokia Tube passed most of these horrible tortures and scored very well. The results were commendable for a phone like Tube 5800 which has sensitive touch screen and plastic body and was actually criticised by some experts as poor build quality. Check out the full story and scary videos how it went through all the hell and survived proudly.
The Russian guys at Mail.ru did some crazy things to test out how the Nokia 5800 phone performs under extreme conditions. Firstly, vertical fall tests and accelerated drop tests were done on the phone and and the device came out of this test as it is still brand new despite the fact that 5800 XM has a plastic body. So be sure your 5800 XpressMusic is absolutely shock absorbent and thats possibly because of the strong metal frame hidden under the plastic cover.
.
Now lets imagine if accidentally you drop your phone somewhere in the public, like in bus or on street, there is a chance of someone stepping on the phone the next moment and crash it into pieces before you can pick it up.
You are lucky again here, the 5800 XM passed this test too when a lady with 60 kg of weight steps up on the phone and there was no harm caused to the screen or body. The plastic ring around the phone protects the display screen very well and phone survives the pressure test.
.
A washing machine test which is considered as the most aggressive fall test designed to simulate multiple drops and strikes on a hard surface. The test was done for about 15 minutes long at 500 rpm spin and Russian testers claims that Nokia 5800 is the first phone ever that survived this test without even losing the battery.
.
Now the 5800 XM was tested for water resistance. Nokia 5800 was tested in water for 20 seconds and in champagne for 10 seconds. The phone has Stereo Speaker holes and a big stylus socket which allowed fluids to easily pour into the phone body. After the test, the batteries were removed and dried up and put up again and the phone worked as normal again without any problems.
Though the testers warned that if your 5800 accidentally drops in some fluid like water, pull it out immediately and remove the battery as soon as possible.
.
The Tube Phone showed some difficulty in standing against unrealistic extreme cold conditions- in a Freezer for 12 hours at a temperature of -20C.
Some of the coldest places of the planet may have a temperature like that but the warmth of carry case, clothes and pockets is more than enough to keep the sensitive devices alive.
.
Test for sand and dust was also performed on the phone and Nokia 5800 was found ‘close to perfect’. The quality of assembly gets tested with this test. Nokia 5800 went into the vacuum cleaner bag for 5 minutes and came out full with dust and dirt, but the phone worked just fine after a wet cleaning and little wash.
.
Nokia 5800 on the whole came out surprisingly as a very strong and durable mobile phone. The ‘Tube’ phone survived almost all horrible tests and finally fought bravely against the most extreme car crash test.
A Mitshubishi Eclipse car passed over the phone and still the phone did not get completely crashed. Though the screen was damaged to some extent, yet the touch layer remain functional and was responding when pressed. WOW!!
The outcomes of the scary tests and the brave responses of the Nokia 5800 shut the mouth of the critics who claimed that the phone is built with a poor quality plastic and is not very shock absorbent or strong enough to stand against accidental damages.
The Nokia 5800 phone is one of the most well assembled, well-built and strongest devices from Nokia.
Cheers!!

Have you seen the iPhone killer wallpaper you can get for it to? that doesnt look too bad… only hope it can actually live up to that. I heard the 5800 comes with hand writing recognition which is a pretty good start for Nokias first fully functioning Touchscreen handset. Cant wait to see the full package.

Ah these tests are pretty reassuring. I’ve recently bought a 5800 XpressMusic handset and have been very worried about the life of the sensitive touch screen. While these tests are interesting and make me confident, I would really like to see a “toddler test” where the handset is (mis)handled by a toddler. This includes sucking at it, chewing on it, dropping it, attempts to poke at it, a liberal dose of porridge on and inside it – all possible indignities that a phone can possibly bear! I’m concerned whether it will pass the “toddler test” because my last Sony Ericsson W810i conked off in just 3-4 months of toddler abuse!
I love the 5800′s interface. The handwriting recognition feature is awesome. It helps overcome the discomfort of keying in letters from the not so friendly alphanumeric keypad option. I found it is much faster and smoother to write a message using the stylus. I also found the qwerty key pad of 5800 much better than that of iPhone – where I made too many keying errors.
Oh by the way, i love the Sennheiser earphones that came free with my handset along with 200 songs!!
Cheers,
Geeta

If you drop your phone in water, take the battery out, and put the phone, battery cover and the battery in a container of raw rice. Leave it in there a day or 2.

Please don’t mind but all these tests WILL DEFINITELY render your Nokia 5800 completely useless and will cause its delicate components irreparable damage and WILL VOID your Warranty as well…therefore please be advised that for entertainment this article is good but dont ever try anything close like this on your Nokia 5800…you’ll regret your actions and cry for your hard earned money..

My 5800 fell into the toilet about half an hour ago.
I pulled it out immediately and removed battery, sim card and even stylus.
I dried it off with a towel and blow dried it a while.
Leaving it apart over night and praying that when I assemble it together, it will be fine.
So nervous right now.
I will be back to update :/

Funny tests, actually…
Obviously, these are things we are not going to try at home.
About champagne vs water…I don’t know who has the higher conductivity factor (I believe champagne was used to drop the 5800 in for a reason).
I just don’t believe that much on the “ice test”. They show the phone losing the touch sensivity, but they did not record till the device got sensivity again (if it did). There’s nothing telling us the device is the same after that test. Anyway, Nokia didn’t build it to be used at -20ºC lool.
But to be truth, I’m very impressed. Specially about the water test. I never though the phone would handle it. I own one, and it actually isn’t very isolated, specially on the front, on the touchscreen borders.

My nokia 5800 fell into the swimming pool. I removed the battery and left for a day to dry it up as i did not want to take chance and its working fine. Amazing ! . Even I saw couple of videos and this phone works even in water, freezer and vertical drops.
