Have you ever felt that the default symbian contacts manager is kinda not upto the mark when it comes to handling of contacts with multiple contact numbers and other advanced features for viewing, organizing and fast accessing the contacts? DreamConnect is the app for targeting this niche market, with their advanced contact manager features for s60 5th edition devices.
DreamConnect, if you happen to know is the award winning application in the yesteryear UIQ platform. The app provides an easier way to find, view, edit and organise your contacts among other things. Screenshots and more details after the break.

Having played around the app with over 2 days we gotta say, the app does bring some advanced contact management features. We totally love the”global find” feature in which the “search phrase” is scanned for in the entire contacts database. An excellent illustration of this feature will be say you are traveling on work to another city and wish to catch up with your friends over there for a drink or something. A “global find” for the city name will shortlist all your contacts there and the get-together is only a phone call away!
Another striking feature of this app is the card like layout showing most of the contact details in a single screen. Thats one welcome feature especially with the kinetic scrolling still missing on our 5800s. Other features of the app include: key-match filtering, preferred number calling and hierarchical categories. Check a detailed comparison of DreamConnect with standard Nokia contacts.
What we like?
- Global find and hierarchical categories
- Business card like outlay
- Advanced organizing and management of contacts
What we don’t like?
- UI could have been much better especially considering the mammoth 3.5″ high resolution screen of our 5800s
- A bit pricey at € 20
Verdict
DreamSpring have done an amazing job in adapting the award winning UIQ application DreamConnect to the symbian fifth edition platform. While we are very impressed with the “global find” feature, the high price is something thats bothering us. The lacklustre user interface does no justice to the price tag either. If the app was priced at around half its present price tag, we would have straightaway declared this a “must have” and recommend it to our readers.
However in the present scenario, we would say that app is worth only if you have like a thousand contacts with multiple entries for most of the contacts. Having said that we would like to add that the 15 day free trial is worth a shot for followers of our blog.

If it were possible to start this application by clicking on the contacts-button on the standby screen, it would have stayed on my phone for more than the 10 minutes I gave it now.

The contacts icon on the bottom of the standby screen is hardcoded by Nokia. That means it cannot be replaced or deleted from the phone. If you are just after quick access to DreamConnect from the standby screen, you can always modify your phone’s setting to have DreamConnect’s icon appear as one of the shortcuts at the top of your standby screen and access it from there.
