F-Secure is one of the most trusted names in the security business when it comes to mobile platforms, where the number of players is very limited. As there are lot of apps that provide anti-theft features, lets first dwell into the other side of the dark alleys i.e- the anti virus and anti malware functions of this security suite. We did scan our 5800s, the moment we activated this security suite and updated its virus definitions and glad we were when we saw the scan results. The scan as such was pretty breezy considering the tons of apps and music we carry along on our 5800s. One thing that caught our attention was the not scanned section and when we happen to check the files the scanner skipped, they happen to be harmless installation files downloaded from the ovi store which for some reason were not scanned by the app.
Coming to the anti-theft functionality of this app, it provides the standard features that one would accept in an anti-theft app: remote lock, remote wipe, lock on SIM change, SMS alerts etc. Nothing fancy we would say, but hey it was a brilliant idea to roll in anti virus and anti-theft in one simple package. Gotta give that to F-Secure folks!
What we like?
- Easy-to-use interface
- Clubbing anti virus and anti-theft features in one app
What we don’t like?
- Doesn’t hide in background (as much as we would have loved it to)
- High price
Verdict
Well, to be frank we don’t think symbian 5th edition needs an anti-virus yet, thanks to the robust signing procedure involved for the apps associated with. Most of the malicious apps are filtered out, but if you happen to be using a hacked 5800, we would strongly recommend you go for this anti virus suite which we should say is the sole warrior in this platform (Please enlighten us if there are other solutions).
The anti-theft features of the app are pretty cool too but what bothers us is the price tag which at $60 for a 12 month license is something far beyond one would expect to spend on a security suite for a smartphone. Add to that robust security structure of symbian, the chances of a malware/virus attack are as remote as chances of finding water on the moon (We know they found some recently but thats exactly our point, there are cases of attacks but the probability is far too low to be bothered about).
However, the trial version of the suite is available as a free download over at the ovi store. Just in case you are worried about virus/malware ending up on your 5800s, we suggest you try the trial version of the app and if you are convinced (obviously we are not), go for the license.

i used for the period of trial, and works fine in my nokia 5800 XM , but the price its to high, and how you say “he chances of a malware/virus attack are as remote as chances of finding water on the moon ” so, i am gonna wait until the price goes down maybe a $15,00 US
