Facebook Application Released for Nokia 5800 at OVI Store
Filed Under Nokia 5800 Applications
Missing Facebook on your Nokia 5800? Well no more, its available here finally for free. The official Facebook application for S60 5th Edition phones like Nokia 5800 and N97 is out on Nokia’s OVI store.
The application is a runtime widget and work both in landscape and portrait mode. It has almost all the features you can expect from a Facebook mobile client, though it feels a little slow to use. You can do just about eveything you can do at Facebook- view news feeds, events, post status updates, view photos, view friends, manage your inbox, and post photos.
A vast majority of Symbian S60 3rd Edition phones are still not supported with the Facebook application. Expect another update of the application for it. But all you Nokia 5800 owners, just search for Facebook at your OVI store client and download straight to your mobile.
If you still do not have the OVI client available on your phones, download it from here. Or else check out the OVI store website.
Here are some screenshots we took while downloading, installing and using FB on Nokia 5800:

Hi,
I downloaded it from Ovi Store this morning. It’s a great little widget, but it is still pretty buggy and slow. It’s crashed on me several times, where I’ve had to go into the phone task manager and kill the widget off. Problem areas include if your inbox, or friends list is large and you go to those respective areas, you have a big chance of crashing the program. I hope they can work out these kinks, and someone incorporate facebook chat, they are about 3/4 there with this. I love the UI!

The one you find at Menu- Internet- Facebook is nothing more than a shortcut or weblink to the Facebook mobile site. With it, you can not do all the things you can on Facebook like add photos or share online, etc.
While this latest one is a native, stand-alone application and official client for Facebook that comes with all the FB features. You will also find the UI a lot improved from the webpage mode to the application mode.. Use it and you will see the difference.

I downloaded the app in my 5800 browser, then uninstalled it and went back later to redownload the file from the ovi store and it said: Unable to download ‘facebook.dcf’ Any ideas as to why it will not let me redownload it?
I cleared my cookies/cache- even made a new ovi account and it still wouldn’t let me.

kyle just plug in the cable to your pc or laptop they got you from the package. copy the applications and go to the drive where your nokia 5800 plugged. paste it in download folder. then after you plugged out the cable from your phone. go to application – file manager – download. and double click the .sisx file

There’s still annoying bug. We can’t see photos with comments in photo section. We only can see photo without any comment (just photo title), and photo loading is rather sluggish.

Its actually a great app to have, I must say. If u dont like it anyway, just try to visit FBs touch site @ touch.facebook.com
Works best with the all new Opera Mini 5. The latest release is still in Beta 2, but works perfectly.
