Furtiv! What Furtiv? This is exactly the question that popped into our mind when we first heard about it from our friends over at AAS. Furtiv is a service which adds more artillery to the armor of Share Online and though the service is still in public beta, the lure of linking Share Online with some of the most popular networking services of facebook, twitter to name a few was more than that was needed for us to testride it on our 5800s.
Before we dwell into more details, we should highlight that this service from Furtiv is in direct competition with Pixelpipe, which we had earlier called a “gem of an application” when we reviewed it a couple of months ago. Can furtiv has in it what it takes to beat a powerhouse like Pixelpipe? Lets find out after the break.
Screenshots-

Well, we can see our readers drooling over the facebook, twitter, picasa and YouTube icons in share online service of our 5800s. So, lets straight away start with getting this service on your 5800s. All you gotta do is point your mobile browsers to http://www.furtiv.mobi/ and follow the on-screen instructions. Once the settings have been downloaded, you should be able to see the facebook/twitter/picasa/youtube icons in the share online service. Now you gotta activate each of these services, which can be done directly from within the share online screen by tapping “Ready for activation”. Activation differs from one networking service to other and we have the facebook setup screenshots for you which happens to be the most time consuming one! Twitter setup was the easiest followed by Picasa and YouTube. Overall activation is pretty straight forward and most 5800ers should be able to get past this in a couple of minutes.
Now you must be asking, “OK, done with activation, now show us some screenshots of uploaded images”. Well, we were about to but thanks to the traffic spike from AAS post, the servers at Furtiv have been overloaded and uploading is not working for the time being. The Furtiv folks are working overtime to fix this asap as per their twitter feed @furtiv.
What we like?
- Setup is cakewalk
- Uploading to popular networking sites is just a couple of clicks away (though we couldn’t test this, we are very much sure of this functionality whenever Furtiv guys fix it)
- Mini-Twitter client like features (with timeline, mentions/replies, direct messages and photostreams)
- Uploading geo-tagged photos (again, we couldn’t test this but the furtiv blog talks at length about this feature)
What we don’t like?
- Tweeting via “tag” feature is kinda cumbersome (Not that we are gonna use Share Online to tweet anyway but we gotta write something here, right?)
Verdict
Furtiv may still be in public beta, but its definitely a very promising service. While Pixelpipe no doubt supports more services that Furtiv, the ease of configuration and uploading from furtiv is what gives furtiv an edge over Pixelpipe especially when we are talking about an average user who will most probably need access to a handful of popular networking services on day to day basis. Power users may opt for Pixelpipe for its versatility but then each service has its own target consumer set.
Furtiv has been so popular in the short span of time it has been under the sun, that the servers are practically choked to death! With the amount of attention it has been getting, we are sure the service will get our “must have” rating as and when its full version is released. Till then have fun uploading your images and videos to your favorite networking sites directly from Share Online (that is after furtiv guys fix the uploading bug!)
