Internet radio has been on the web since long and has catched up with the mobile platform off late. While the likes of Pandora and Last.fm rule the roost, there are several online radio stations beaming live radio to netizens across the globe.
However, internet radio is something that our 5800 has been intrinsically missing with the Symbian 5th edition OS lacking a dedicated internet radio client. Well, what are the third party developers for? HotmixRadio is one such client and a very good at it as it categorizes on the basis of popular genres for easy selection. Catch our brief review and some screenshots after the break.
Screenshots-

Internet streaming works great and the interface has that iTunes Cover Flow like feel which has really taken off bigtime with iPod and iTunes becoming a part of staple diet of music enthusiasts. Apart from that the UI is really sleek and easy-to-use.
What we like?
- Intuitive and eye-candy UI
- Classification by genres
What we don’t like?
- Limited choices of stations esp for International listeners
- Buffering is not smooth at times
Internet radio has been one of the most requested feature for smartphones for a while now and Hotmixradio has shown how really cool this genre of apps can be. While Hotmixradio does have some pitfalls, we are very much impressed by its UI and categorization. We definitely think it will update its database to include more internet radio stations covering more diverse genres and thus we give this app a “must have” tag for your 5800s.
Hotmixradio can be downloaded for free from the Ovi store

Might wanna try Absolute and Mobbler as well. Mobbler would be closer to Pandora and the like than this, which doesn’t give you extreme choice of your music.

I still prefer mobbler, which in my view is one of the most useful apps on the Nokia 5800. (http://code.google.com/p/mobbler/) But nice to see other programs in this genre.

@Raj- We know about these copy cat sites, there are many and we can stop them from copying our content in a day but we dont care much about them as long as we have loyal visitors like you. Thanks for your kind words though

This program has exact the same UI as the other web radio programs (two from Energy (German), one from NRK P3(I think Norwegian) they are all similar and have different Channels for different Genres. IMHO they are all very good, but I think the Energy Channel (the one with the with logo) is best for international listeners.
