How to Fix the ‘Expired Certificate’ Problem in Nokia 5800
Filed Under Nokia 5800 Tips N TricksAlright, so many of you are facing problems while installing applications on Nokia 5800. We get some queries daily from users that when they try to install the apps, they get “expired certificate” errors. Hopefully this will get fixed in the next firmware update for Nokia 5800, but for now here is the solution to try.
If you have already tried the common solutions like changing the date of your phone to few months back, allow the software installation to ALL in your application manager, turn off the online certificate check, phone resetting or formatting, etc. and if nothing works for you, try this solution below – IT WORKS!!
How to Fix the Nokia 5800 “Expired Certificate” Installation Error:
1) Backup all your messages, contacts, notes, calendar entries, etc. by using Nokia PC Suite.
2) After you have the backup, you have to remove the MicroSD card. Do not remove the card directly when the phone is on, card and data can get corrupt. Follow these steps to remove MicroSD card-
a) Press the power key, sroll down and select “Remove Memory Card” option.
b) Press ‘YES’ when asked “Removing memory card will close all open applications. Remove anyway?”
c) Shortly after, the “Remove Memory Card and press OK” message appears, the microSD is ready to be unplugged or removed now from the dedicated slot.
3) Enter *#7370# code on your screen to restore the phone to Factory Default Settings. This will delete all your personal data.
4) Next, you will be asked the phone lock code, if you have not changed this earlier, enter the default one which is 12345.
5) The phone will reboot, select your country as “HONG KONG”. Some users reported the phone works fine even while selecting their correct country but for some only HONG KONG works. Its better to chose Hong Kong here for now, we can change it later.
6) Power off the phone again and put back the Micro SD card in its slot.
7) Restart the phone and Voila!! your Nokia 5800 is ready to install any signed application.
Hope the above steps makes you guys happy and finally get rid of this annoying certificate error. Cheers!!

Ok, if you phone is still under warranty, as I am sure ALL of you are. I brought mine to Nokia Center, after a lot of interesting dialogue, the formatted the phone without the memory card, and it really worked. you know i could install it, I even upgraded my firmware, Guess I am not so adventurous as I used to be..
But its works and i am happy and very very relieved from being very irritated a few days ago

At first I could not install Quickoffice because of this “expired certificate” problem. I tried changing the clock back 1 year, that didn’t work. Then I tried changing the clock back 2 years and it worked!!! I don’t know if that will work for you, but it’s easier than doing a hard reset.

how do i backup files?
Friday, March 20th, 2009 at 8:39 am
for those are forgot about their lock code to do hard reset, you can do : first, turn off your phone after backup, then, hold the green, white, red and camera button and turn on the phone (keep holding those buttons). Then your phone got a hard reset!

hi I had the same problem too..
) i didnt find any errrors at all!!!
i just bought my 5800 3 days ago and i had so many problems with it…
i was unable to install some of applications too…
my friend said that i need to reset my fone and select country Hongkong…
i did what what he told me and the problems was getting worse ….
i couldnt connect internet, the phone restarted it self everytime i went to the galery, the volume didn’t work on the music (only from the gallery). when i played music from memory card everything was fine…and i couldnt delete song files from the gallery either!!!!
then i was looking for upgrade but my fone was already up dated!!
because i thought my fone was already a mess then i tried to reinstall it!!
but everytime i tried to instaled it failed!!!!!!
i did it again and again becaues i really love this fone!!
i mean i spent all my saving to buy it!!:)
well nothing was succesfull with the reinstallation!!
the fone refused to connect the PC!!
then i intended to bring it to the nokia center…
but at night as my final efforts before i bring the fone to the nokia center i removed the memory card from the fone!
and you know what…it works absolutely fine!!like a brand new fone!!!( well it is
tried to send a song file from another fone then played it and i checked the volume everything was fantastic…no problem at all!!!!
then i decided to format the memory card!!!
then i was surprised that the fone was back!!!!
everything is fine now…
well i hope it will last to forever!
i dont want to face any problems again with it!!!
any one has the same experience????

Thursday, June 4th, 2009 at 12:27 am
A SOLUTION WITHOUT RESET/FORMAT OR WHATEVER.
This is a 30 SECOND SOLUTION SO FAR BY MAGIC.
-Change your date NOT BACKWARD but FORWARD.
For me it was on 1 june 2009 and I changed it to 1 june 2010.
And believe me there was a pub for 2010 Fida WorldCup in SA
On TV that why I choose 2010 and by some how the stupid “expired certificate” message is no longer there. I can install all compatible app on myNokia 5800 even when restored my date to normal I can still install ALL COMPATIBLE: ovi store app, google map, fring, nubizz … All.
Just change your date to next year and you will be able to install the first program that you dreamed of on you 5800 EMusic and then you can put it back as normal and you will no longer have that
“expired certificate without FORMAT/RESET OR WHATEVER.
IF YOU GOT RESULT JUST COMMENT A THANK TO ME AND I
WILL APPRICIATE-

Thursday, July 16th, 2009 at 12:12 am
Flavier K. your solution of temporarily setting the date forward a year worked for me, thanks very much.
So much easier than a backup, format and restore!
I was running software version 21.0.025 on 5800 MusicExpress (RM-356).
Cheers!!!!!!!!
