The latest rumor out there is that Nokia 5800 may soon get a new software update. The latest firmware update to be out soon is v.31.0.015. There is no official word from the Finnish Giant about the update but a clue was found in a recent Nokia OVI Video.
The video released officially by Nokia Conversations few days back about the OVI Suite 2.0 Introduction clearly shows the Nokia 5800 phone being updated to new firmware. The new firmware version on display in the video is v31. Take a look below.

This clue was found by Fonearena who also anticipates the following changes with the new firmware:
- A new homescreen (viz Nokia 5530),
- Or A Widgetized Homescreen (viz Nokia N97),
- Kinetic Scrolling, etc
And here is the actual video, notice the screen at about 00:57 seconds-
One thing that raises doubt about this so called new firmware is- if you notice the current version displayed is v15.0.015. This version was never available for Nokia 5800. This could mean that the versions shown in the video (both current and the new) are just for demo purposes only. But still we have to wait for few more days to see if the news is true.

I think it’ll be real good to see a new firmware from Nokia for 5800 that can support kinetic scrolling and a widgetized home screen. It sounds hard to believe though, that all these features will be given to make 5800 equal to that of N97, which is considered as high-end in contrast to the tube.

I would like to make following suggestions for the new FW:
Unable to delete Emails. I always want to delete once I am done with the message so that mails do not clutter my Mail Box in the phone.
CONTACTS scrolling is too fast. When we roll down we are unable to stop at the required name.
SMS display: Color setting is horrible. I am unable to read the FROM Name because of Red letters over Grey background.

Oooo: there’s loads of things I’d like changed!
I’d like to see some updates to the S60v5 music player. The 5800 is, after all, part of the Xpress Music range! Browsing though long lists of artists and songs is tedious (but would be easier with kinetic scrolling!), so an updated interface would be a welcome change. How about browsing by album art/artist image/song title in a similar way to the 3D wall in Nokia’s Photo Browser? Or at least Album Art tiles, as in the Nokia Music desktop program.
I’d also like to see a “Delete all listened-to” option in podcasting, or even better, an auto-delete of old podcasts. The 5800 great at managing and downloading podcasts, this would just round-off it’s features.
I don’t seem able to paste WEP keys when adding new WLAN connections. The field seems to be locked to simple character entry, which is a pain for long strings of random characters! Fix it Nokia!
I find the drop-down Media Bar really handy, although it would be even more useful if I could customize the shortcuts displayed. I realize that this is possible with a 3rd party app, but who wants to pay (and use more RAM by running extra apps!) when Nokia can add this functionality easily itself?
I really miss the “mark several” option from S60v3. Marking multiple contacts, messages, making playlists, etc, is a nightmare on the 5800.
Did I already mention kinetic scrolling?! Nokia pulled it off pretty well in it’s internet browser. Why not phone wide?! The Kinetic Scrolling in Google Maps and the latest version of Opera Mini make the 5800’s screen a joy to use. The phone would be A LOT better if it was deployed across the UI.

i am dying for kinetic scrolling … and also if they can fix the crashing problem, i lost all of my messages in my inbox, drafts, outbox and mailbox several times when an app crashes and the tube restarts
home screen surely needs an update as well!

it’d be very helpfull if they fix d web crash prblm.. again they should add “find music” option with the play list, coz it’s a touch screen phone so we cant just type any wordz n get d desired song so easily. if they add this option with d playlist we can type d song name only by touching d “find music” tab .
they should add more menu style .. the Xpresss music key tab should be customisable and they colour should with the themes… more applications should be addeble on the main screen .. kinetic scrolling and n97 like screen style is also expeceted from NOKIA..

I wouldn’t like n97 widget screen. 5800 is too slow mobile phone for that, I like more 5530 screen.
And kinetic scrolling. I just love that. That is the most important thing that I would like :D.
Camera improvement and web browser bug fixing is very important too.

i doubt about this latest FW, but if ever that it is true (and I that it is..)I would like to see some update on its music player, the interface is bad provided that it is an express music so it should have mean music player..

3D effects when auto rotate, a better qwerty keyboard faster and smoother typing like iphone , make the tube å lot faster, customizable homscreen with widgets like omnia and make the scrolling improved and make the phona look like the photo browser

@ER-B- The update v.21.0.101 is actually a minor update which is around for a while and is only available for 6 product codes in the eastern world like Hong Kong.
It does not have any noticeable changes, just a few minor performance enhancements.
Lets see if this v31 comes to reality soon with some major changes.

the camera performance is very poor considering its the same one as in the excellent 6500 slide. THIS is the major thing that needs to be addressed. Too grainy under low light/indoor conditions. The gadget show gave the slides camera a 5G rating here in the uk.

Well I wish they also remove this whole idea of many product codes ! Atleast I can use Persian fonts as well in my Acia Pacific 5800

How about a TTLS-PAP and WPA2-Enterprise for the new FW. From what i seen on the internet there will be a FW update for the Nokia 5800 but late 2009.
There is an update for the Hong Kong 5800 nokia’s but the world update is still to be announced .

Will they ever offer a firmware revert feature like on the iPods/iPhones? Is that even possible on S60 devices? It would be nice to try a new firmware, but it would be better to know you can go back if it breaks something that an older firmware has working.

i currently have v.21 for asia-pac.
here are some of my feedback:
- i cant view the full detailed logs the tab is disabled
- when clicked the IM icon, nothing happens
- cant play the pre installed videos
- cant set a video as a message alert / ringing tone
these are just some…
hope that this will be fixed once v.31 comes out

I wouldn’t mind an even faster user interface. The screen orientation is almost there… it just needs to be faster. and more themes made by nokia! I’m growing old of my default grey theme…
A better music player was mentioned, and I really don’t know what it could be that could be done to enhance it…
But I would like for the os to be more stable and ALL of the bugs needs to be fixed this time!
Thanks to Nokia and this website for continuing working on this OS and not giving up and for this site to keep me updated!
As long as things keep going the way they are, I’ll remain a happy camper with Nokia.

I love my 5800, but there are some lacks at this phone. Nothing is perfect, is it?
What i would like:
1. Kinetic scrolling
2. Customizable shortcut bar( very important)
3. Automatic full qwerty keyboard when rotating in landscape mode
4. Maps should be used in landscape mode as well
5. Thumbnail size to be adjustable, or three sizes to be available when browsing pictures or videos
6. When viewing the songlist a search by name would be very useful (like finding contacts)
7. Fixing the scrolling bar in “Search” (maybe it’s only my phone, but if i search for a song or contact the scroll bar needs to be pressed at the right edge of the screen. It does not work like when viewing contacts from the contacts menu, where i use my thumb with no problems. I can not use the “Search” function with only one hand)
I have more to say but i thing it is enough.

Biggest pain I have is real player cannot play in background, running orb allows among other things unlimited audio so can stream music or any radio station on net, ra, wma whatever. Also when streaming real audio format internet radio through real player, its a pain when its makes the other apps redundant. Nokia internet radio app ok but a simple tweak on real payer would make this phone timeless, no need to worry about storage capacity ever. I know Nokia would probably say realplayer is for video but surely if streamning audio would allow multi tasking. Come on Nokia read feedback from these blogs and give your customers what they want otherwise the competion will. I am very surprised why not more people looking for an internet radio app from Nokia.

Music shortcuts on Homescreen like play, pause etc. and divx support.

Hi, some problems comes with latest firmware update V31.0.008, the green button doesn’t allow to do direct access to last calling sheet, when I use bluetooth to listen music in my car, now with new firmware, i can’t choose songs directly from the selection buttons in my car stereo but I must to take the phone and do it from mediaplayer… before It was ok : (

Fix all glitchy bit and Lag, I.E, when starting the phone up, It crashes and stays on the nokia symbol. Less laggy! The new flash player that will be available soon, No Glitchy bits! NO GLITCHY BITS OR LAG!!!

When setting a photo as wallpaper it doesn’t fit the whole screen and there are no options to stretch the image to fit.
