Yeah.. the long awaited firmware update v.30.0.11 / v30.2.11 for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic finally arrive today. The firmware is available via OTA for some product codes and via NSU for the others. But its still not available for all product codes/ geographical locations as of now.
The official changelog is not available anywhere but a big change we noticed is the update allows you to view your email on the Homescreen now. General speed and responsiveness improvements and bug fixes can also be seen. But still no sign of much rumored widgetized homescreen or kinetic scrolling as of yet.
Screenshots:

How to Update the Firmware?
One of the following methods should work fine for you-
1) Via OTA: Just enter *#0000# on your dial screen, then go to options- check for updates.
2) Via NSU: Download and install Nokia Software Updater application, connect the phone to the PC and check for update.
If both methods doesn’t work, the update may not be available as of now for your product code/ geographical location/ carrier. Wait for few hours/ days and try again.
Note: The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic does have UDP (User Data Preservation), which means you should not lose your settings and data after the update, but its still a good idea to backup your phone before updating, just in case if something goes wrong.
We will update the post with more improvements as and when found. Kindly share your experience with the new firmware update with others in the comments.
UPDATE:
Cheangelog noticed so far:
- Email plugin for homescreen email notification (set homescreen mode to shortcuts). You may need to hard reset the phone to make it work.
- Noticeable speed and response improvements
- Better music quality, onscreen touch volume control
- Improved browser, faster surfing, fullscreen web has now transparent arrow
- Correct icons for the call lists (mobile, fixed, etc.)
- The portrait/ landscape switch is pretty fast now
- More free RAM available now

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Checked via NSU. Not available on t-mobile in the UK. Plesae post if update works ok on 5800. Love mine and dont want to mess it up.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 12:38 am
Good thing it hasn’t been released for my phone yet then, might wait a bit and see how many people have problems.
Too bad they didn’t release the widget home screen. I’m starting to think they’re leaving us 5800ers in the mud here.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 12:47 am
ok, so it stopped restarting, and works pretty well..
i had some hard time with the SD card it got stuck and stuff..
but seems that it’s ok now~!
though the email on the home screen doesn’t really work for me, but i dunno..
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 12:48 am
When will this be available for NAM users
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 12:49 am
sorry, the email on the home screen works fine.. but i had to configure it myself, which was idiotic.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 1:35 am
I can believe nokia s releasin another s60v5 fone. 1. The already releazd phones are Very Recent and can b improved by decent updates(not like the one here)…
2. Users of nokia 5800 will b made to look like fools for dis new model N5530 will hav almost every feature or 5800 plus better ones like partial kinetic scroll etc at MUCH CHEAPER RATE!
I am sure you people at tube5800.com will agree with me.So PLease convey dis to NOKIA ASAP. By the way thanks for regular updates….cnb

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 3:41 am
Anyone know- how much time passed between the initial release of the v21 firmware and the release for NAM? I would assume the interval would be the same for this one.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 3:49 am
Dont think its available in the UK yet! we always get it later than everyone else.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 3:55 am
I’m from Bulgaria! From NSU - not, but YES from update within the phone, now I’ll try it!

Just tried on http://www.nokia.co.uk - says that update is not available (latest V21.0.025 02-04-09). However, it works fine OTA way - the phone was updated to V30.0.011 and it works okay for now. Liked the touch volume slider
Thanks guys for the notification.

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 6:52 am
I have updated my phone with the new firmware…The 1st time it started ma phone crashed & it restarted n after that its working good so far…..hope it doesn’t crash again…
well i got this change log in 1 of the forums on the net…thought it might be use full to you guyzz
Standby screen:
*When Music Player is operating, and seeing the track name on the screen, and then when one song ends and goes to the next track, the speed at which this happens has improved yet again from 21.002, although the noticeable change is not as much as from 20.149 to 21.002.
Call log, Contacts and calling function:
*Calling speed (from standby screen to Contacts or Call Log) and transition to call/disconnected screens even faster than 21.002, is more than the instantaneous that I stated for the 21.002, it has improved yet again.
*New menu option in the in-call menu to Send MMS during phone call.
*Loudspeaker maximum volume has seemed to decreased
Maps:
*Maps startup is now almost instantaneous, speed through all the Maps menus very fast, even faster than Maps 2.0
*Switching to different views is very smooth and fast now, i.e. to Map 3D etc.
*Maps version 2.0 week 39 remains the same, although the Maps is able to be upgraded to Ovi Maps 3.01 flawlessly
Music Player:
*The biggest change is the equaliser improvements. There is a huge improvement in sound quality, even background sounds and other channels are more noticeable. The default equaliser settings are quite good. And bass is less crunchy than before.
*Split-second delays now do not exist when pressing the volume keys to change between volume levels. In the past, there was some degree of delay, even running multiple applications now, that behaviour has been improved remarkably.
*Freezes in the music player have not been evident to me yet in my days of usage with the new firmware . Which is a marked improvement in the functioning and stability of the music player. Screen tearing and slow speed for album art to appear is still present though.
Camera and Photos:
*Biggest change is the reappearance of use of the volume keys to zoom while taking photos/recording video
*Going into Details is faster than 21.002, almost instantaneous now
*Scrolling speed through thumbnails is only minimally jerky now, also scrolling through photos at 100% view has improved in speed so it is now very smooth and almost instantaneous
*When going into menus in Camera, the speed is instantaneous
Video centre:
*Logo has changed for the video centre in the menu
*Appearance of video menu is different and seems to have inherited the newer N-series/E-series style simplified logos
*Speed in the video centre is much improved and is almost instantaneous
*Changing between volume levels in RealPlayer is instantaneous, fast-forward/rewind speed and resume of playback after these functions is improved and almost instantaneous. Sound quality appears to have been improved also.
Search:
*Application has been upgraded from v4.08 to v4.10.0904
*Logo has changed and is now reminiscent of the newer N-series/E-series simplified styling
*Performance is faster and Yandex search service has been removed in favour of Live Search and Google (Note: this is for the APAC variant, will vary between different regions and specific countries)
Web:
*Rendering of webpages has improved in speed since 21.002
*Rotate Screen option speed is now almost instantaneous
*Speed in Web options menu is now instantaneous
*Loading of Minimap on side when scrolling down pages does not have pixelation anymore
Other:
*Overall system speed has been improved so it is somewhat faster than 21.002
*Scrolling in the Multimedia menu from one tab to another whilst multiple applications are running, has improved marginally in speed
*Overall stability seems to also have been improved, have not had one crash or freeze where I have had to remove the phone battery. The slight freezes that have occurred, the phone has recovered from flawlessly.

Hi, is this firmware update available for us here in the Philippines? Appreciate feedback from anyone that have information.
to Admin - can I still use the JAF application to impose the update on my phone? if so can you provide me the product code that supports the update. my unit is BLUE 5800.. thanks in advance.. i don’t like to wait for too long, such an impatient person.
hahaha
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
I keep getting operation canceled by server. I’m in South Africa
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
I’m from Slovenia and update was available yesterday directly from the phone. After upgrade I don’t have the “Email plugin for homescreen email notification”. I did backup with Nokia PC Suite and then the hard reset. After the reset email plugin was available. But when I restored my settings back from a backup, plugin was gone! WTF??
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
So has anyone from the UK got this working yet? I have tried the OTA way and I get the error message ’server is not responding’. Then I tried using the NSU but it says that there isn’t an update available.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
no update yet in australia on virgin mobile
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
UPDATE: when you are doing restore from a backup (over Nokia PC suite) and you DON’T select to restore SETTINGS, then email plugin is shown. But then you have to do the settings again.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
I’m from Srilanka, just updated my phone to v30…. but i dnt see a difference at all… im really disappointed that there is no kinetic scrolling, n da widgets…. It works fine … but not much of a difference.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Updated successfully…but da email on home screen doesnt work?can anyone tell me what to do about dat….overall the phone is working quite fine
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Available in Germany via OTA.
Works great. Phone seems to be a bit quicker than before.
Cannot see any improvements for switching between portrait and landscape view. The browser also seems to be a bit quicker.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
they have changed the logo of the my nokia app….. WOW TX NOKIA LOVE THE NEW ICON, WHO NEEDS KINETIC SCROLLING OR WIDGETS!!!!!
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
Did the update here in Cape Town.South Africa
Works GREAT! All that is promised is true.
I’m happy with the quick re-orientation, much better than previous.
The call icons also look much better then the single default we previously had.
To test capabilities, I opened up 12 applications (webserver, calculator, operamini, solitaire, maps, speedtouch, ovi, real player, phone info, paint pad, bubbles & solo noble) before my phone started slowing down, not BAD!
A few of the menu icons have changed as well (My Nokia, etc)
Default browser speed is slightly faster
Hope the next update as widgets and kinetic scrolling…
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Oh, you can also use the SMALL font now without the text dissappearing on the menu screen!
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
OK I’ve updated successfully and like many, email on home screen didn’t work.
i had to hard reset my phone (*#7370#) and it worked.
but be aware you’ll lose apps and have to reinstall them again also any data saved on phone memory such as contacts calendar entries messages images and all your settings as well…all phone memory.
in general the update is fine but not great, i expected more than that.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Updated on 02UK using OTA method.
Restarted 3 times, works pretty good.
Haven’t noticed major improvemnets but the little speed increase is welcome.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Available in Australia vic OTA but not SUD………updating mine now.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Works in Hungary as well!

One small thing that bothered me:
since my phone died once (could not switch it back on) and fixed by Nokia, I am doing a daily auto-backup. After each backup, the default memory for messages is changed back to C: (phone memory).
Well, this is still not fixed…
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
not yet available in spain, not via ota nor nsu…
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
I’m from slovenia, and I updated my phone with no problems at all. Everything works prfectly.
And stop complaining that theres no widgetized home screen! Rumors about that have been..stupid. And the rumor started, that we will get an update with widgetized home screen and kinetic scrolling, when Nokia 5530XM comes out. So expect it then and stop complaining :).
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Ya…email on homescreen available after hard reset….cool update!
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Hi people, the update has improved the overall function of the Nokia 5800XM a lot. The Update is 100% successful here in South-Africa.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
I can’t make calls now. It says ‘emergency calls only’. What am i supposed to do now?
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
Seems like the update has been pulled… It was available yesterday (OTA/Finland), but isn’t today.
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Also after updating all my icons are big. I can’t make them small even after keeping the foot size to small
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 11:33 pm

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
I’m in the UK and it shows no update via NSU or OTA. Nokia.co.uk also ahows no update. Nokia server says no OTA update and so does Orange server.

Paul - have just spoken to Nokia. The update is not available in the UK yet and they say that’s for all service providers such as O2, Orange etc. They won’t say why either so I guess we just wait.
Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 8:54 pm

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 at 11:50 pm

i don’t know why..??
Thursday, July 30th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
not yet available in indonesia, but might be worked if you change your product code, google it, although it may void your warranty if you do so.
with normal product code, it has no update either with NSU or OTA..
i’ll try to change product code right now
Thursday, July 30th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
Im from Malaysia…its available guys!!!!!
Thursday, July 30th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
just received a word from Nokia Care via email, they said that the V30 firmware will not be available for the units purchased here in the Philippines.. they also said that we will have our own update but there’s no release date yet. can you believe that? guess i have to wait… or i can use the JAF application to tweak my product code. bwahahahahaha!! (will think this over though)
Friday, July 31st, 2009 at 5:22 am
what jaf?
Friday, July 31st, 2009 at 5:47 am
It really ruined my n5800, should send it to flash it again, and all gotta say is if you are not sure about it, DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PHONE!!!, could not find any tip for restoring “hard reset” the phone, mine had 21.2.025 and was about to update to 30.2.011 when a blank screen came upon, and after that it did not turn on. God I miss it!!!!. Hopefully they can fix it.
Saturday, August 1st, 2009 at 12:22 am
if you live in uk and want version 30.0.011 update change product code to 0558982 using nss, then go to nsu it will tell you no update avilable. reinstall version 21.2.025 then it should leave it ready for the version 30.0.011 download ota and bingo.good luck
Saturday, August 1st, 2009 at 1:52 am

does anyone know is it possible to stream internet radio that is windows format. Real format on real player good. Does core player allow this or is there a windows media player for nokia. Good phone but scratches very easily.
Saturday, August 1st, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Not so happy about the update, It shouldn’t had more options other then Email option on the Home Screen also they shouldn’t had fixed Home screen errors such as Despairing Shortcuts bar and Email Notification so you don’t need to format the phone and start from a scratch.
Saturday, August 1st, 2009 at 2:47 pm
so, i managed to update it.
i had to connect to wlan firts, if i tried justa updating i got an “connection error”.

hi guys, a little help please. i do want to upgrade the fw of my nokia 5800, currently got the ver21. is there any product code that i can use to get the updated fw. i got the blue version
Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
The simplest, easiest and fastest way to check the availability of new firmwares for specific product codes is by querying it on the dedicated web sites:
- For Europe: http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update
- For the U.S.: https://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/software/device-software-update/can-i-update
I guess there are further regional pages, too.
Thursday, August 13th, 2009 at 11:08 am

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 at 5:34 am
Can anyone tell me if this update will work on hacked phones and will my hacked and unsigned apps work.
Thanks
Monday, August 24th, 2009 at 7:16 am
Works like a magic ! It’s available in Spain,it took me less than 3 min. to finish the update, straight from the phone over a WiFi.Way faster response now, browsing on it’s native is noticable faster, but I don’t think tilting screen it’s faster than before (v.21.0),at least is not that obviously faster.
To conclude-UPDATE IF YOU CAN,it’s worth !

francis, you’re such a wanker. hacking the phone and updating the firmware are different things. You ought to read other forums regarding that.
PS. check your spelling when you post, and in English please.

yes firmware v30 is now available in Thailand. just uped mine a week ago. at first email notification shows in the home screen menu but when I configured it it has disappeared. magic….they said hard reset but don’t like to. tried sending email and no problem. guess I’ll just have to do away with the notification thing. over all no problem noticed.

For the “emergency calls only” problem click: 1)MENU / 2)SETTINGS / 3)CONNECTIVITY / 4)NETWORK and in here you should see that DUAL is ticked, so I had to change from DUAL to GSM. This fixed my problem.

i hav got it updated since long time now…
i don’t know why Nokia planned to keep the same bug which was present when i bought my 5800.
Now again the screen goes black and fadded whenever it feels like.
P.S if anyone has a solution. while i look into redoing the previous firmware which didn’t made me worry.

WARNING
This v30.0.11 is not good for my 5800. I updated it using NFU from v21 to v30 and the phone screwed. Would not start again. Had to take it to nokia repaire centre. They reflashed it with v21 and gave it back.
when i got home i tried again and same thing. updated via NFU and phone crashed and is now dead again. I work in IT so its not user error as i do this for all other brands of nokia phones.

updated to v31.0.101 and get system error immediately after completing. everything, except the clock* works ok, just seems slower.
* when trying to acces the clock menu I get the system error again. tried to re-update, but didn’t help.
pretty anoying as my time is now quite randomly 8.5 hours earlier (or 15.5 hours later?)… and i can’t use my alarm clock.
anybody have similar issues and recommendations on how to fix this?
cheers

Hi, I really like my Nokia 5800.
I see that we in South Africa have the V3 update only and not the even newer V4. I wanted to know if I should update to V3, becasue allot of people are saying it making crap on their phones.
Thanks
