Nokia India today unveiled its much-awaited touch-screen music phone Nokia 5800 XpressMusic at an event held in New Delhi, India. The company made some significant announcements about its launching plans, pricing and Nokia’s Music Store in India.
The company also announced its tie-up with major international and Indian music companies giving Indian consumers an opportunity to grab their favorite music across genres and languages.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President, Nokia said, “With more than 300 million music enabled devices sold, and a strong base of over 10 Nokia Music stores in operation globally, Nokia has been able to gain incredible amount of knowledge and insights on what people want in a music device and track important trends on how people consume music. We will continue to break new grounds in this space by building more and better services for our consumers.”
The touch-screen smart phone is said to be available by December-end or early 2009 in the domestic market. The phone is expected to be priced at Rs.19,999 ($400+) in India.
To enable locally relevant content, Nokia has tied up with leading international music companies – Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, EMI and Warner – and major independent Indian record labels including T-Series, Big Music, Yashraj, Hungama and many more. The company is also planning to join hands with India’s leading music body, Indian Music Industry (IMI), a consortium of over 150 music companies.
Mr. D. Shivakumar, Managing Director, Nokia India said “As Nokia’s first mass-market device with a touch screen, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic turns a ‘user interface’ into a ‘human interface’ by truly putting people first. When it comes to music phones, people all over the world want a device that is a great music experience – with more memory, loud and powerful speakers, easy synchronization – and must still work well as a mobile phone with direct access to important contacts and content. The iconic Nokia 5800 XpressMusic delivers on all these counts.”
The ‘Beta’ Nokia Music Store, which will go live on December 18, will be available for commercial use for the customers in the first quarter of 2009, Mr Kumar added.
Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is a matchless entertainment device from Nokia with a touch-screen interface, 3.2 megapixel camera, 8GB memory card (expandable upto 16GB), unlimited music downloads for 1 year, and many more exceptional features.

Hey Guys,
This is a great news. Thanks a ton for updating. I love this blog and it has become my homepage. Dying to get this phone in my hand. Kudos to you guys!!!!
Though I expected the price to be touch less than quoted but that is still acceptable considering the features this phone offers.
Also, the 19999 price includes the music subscription. Is there an option wherein we can buy the phone without the music subscription.
Can you please let me know as to when is this phone coming in UAE and whats the price for the same.

Hey McWayne,
Thx so much for the flowers on Tube5800 blog. Support like this motivate us to do better n better.
We do not think Nokia 5800 will be available at a reduced rate without the option for music subscription. All devices will come at the same rate and bundled with the free music service. Country wise prices may differ.
UAE launch is close and we will update you as soon as its official. Thanks so much for being with us.

Hie there,
This blog is really amazing..all info that i wanted..thanks for updating regularly!!
Can’t wait to get my hands on this wonderful phone. Have been waiting for the past 1 and 1/2 months..thought that the phone would be released by 1st week of December and now it realy breaks my heart to know that I need to wait for another month. Can’t this be released in December only…
Also, Rs.19999/- price quoted in the article seems to be wrong..some of the websites are showing the expected price to be around Rs.21,800/-.
Thanks

Hi Namrata
Thanks for being a regular visitor. Your wait for Nokia 5800 is almost over and you can see it selling in India very soon.
Yes the price confusions are still there, as the official price is not out yet. Some websites are reporting it to be around Rs. 21839, yet there are many news sources as below which reports the price to be Rs. 19999. Lets wait for few more days to get this confusion clear.
