The Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic smartphone will not be available in US and most of Europe before 2009. This is a surprising and disappointing announcement by Nokia considering that Xmas is the peak time for handsets sales.
Nokia reversed its earlier announcement of London Remix event that 5800 Xpressmusic Tube will hit the UK stores in November. Interestingly, Nokia now announced that the 5800 touchscreen will be available first in countries like India, Indonesia, UAE, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia and Spain in 2008 but not in US and most of Europe before 2009. Spain seems to be the only European country to get the model in 2008.
Reuters suspect Nokia wants to delay the launch due to production problems or the network specific customization for America and Europe.
Analytics believe this a strategic move by Nokia to launch the handset in developing countries first and keep the excitement rolling in major markets like US, UK and others. When all the competitors gets busy in pushing their smartphones in major markets like US during festival season, Nokia will capture most of the Asia-Pacific region.
Soon after the Xmas excitement settles down in America and Europe, Nokia will unveil the pack for these markets. Who knows Nokia may be preparing to bundle more exciting offers with the 5800 model for US and Europe crowd.
