About 2 months back, we came up with a news that Nokia is all set to launch a series of N-Series Touch Phones very soon. The first one in the N-Series touch phone is just announced by Nokia - Nokia N97, with mind-blowing features and specs.
A hot topic of discussion going on in the mobile world these days is comparing Nokia 5800 XpressMusic with Nokia N97. Though we believe both the phones are designed for different market segments and are not comparable, yet we present here a simple comparison of some features/ specs between the two.
With a large (640×360 pixel, 16 million color) touchscreen, a slide out QWERTY keyboard and a screen that tilts to 35 degrees, the N97 pulls together aspects of other devices in Nokia’s range. The device also features a 5MP Carl Zeiss camera, 30 fps DVD quality video, A-GPS and accelerometer much as you would expect from a high end device, but will also contain 48GB memory. Check out a full review of Nokia N97 here.
Nokia N97 advantages over Nokia 5800-
- Display- N97 has a wider 3.5″ touchscreen display, 5800 has 3.2″. Resolution is same in both devices (640 X 360).
- Memory- N97 comes up with 48GB memory capacity (32GB internal & 16GB memory card supported). Nokia 5800 has 81MB internal memory and upto 16GB of card storage.
- Camera- 5 Megapixel camera included in N97, Nokia 5800 has a 3.2 MP.
- Gaming- N-Gage gaming capabilities included in Nokia N97. No support yet for the same in Nokia 5800.
- Keyboard- A full QWERTY sliding keyboard is also included in N97.
- Widgets- Live personalized home screen with widgets for web services and social sites in N97.
Nokia 5800 advantages over Nokia N97-
- Comes with Music- Nokia 5800 has a bundled service called ‘Comes With Music’ which allows unlimited music downloads from milions of tracks for one full year- Absolutely Free! Nokia N97 will not have that.
- Weight- Nokia 5800 weighs just 109g while N97 is much heavier at 150g.
- Size- Nokia 5800 has compact size of 111 X 51.7 X 15.5 mm while N97 has a dimension of 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9~18.3mm.
- Colors- Nokia 5800 comes with more trendy and appealing colors like Red, Blue and Black while N97 has usual White & Black.
- Availability- Nokia 5800 is launched in some countries already and all set to launch in other parts of the world in Q1 of 2009. Nokia N97 has an expected wait period of over 6 months.
- Price- Nokia 5800 is half the price of N97. Nokia 5800 costs just 279 Euros while N97 has a price tag of 550 Euros before taxes and subsidies.
All in all, these two great handsets are the all time best creations of Nokia but both aimed for seperate market ranges. The N97 incorporates several elements from the Nokia 5800 and goes a few steps further feature-wise but the 5800 Xpress Music wins at price and other factors.
Nokia 5800, a pure fun device with ultimate music, multimedia and entertainment capabilities delivers the touch phone to mid-range markets. The Nokia N97, on the other hand is a high-range device, fully capable to replace a laptop and may appeal more to the business and high-end class.
Do let us know if you can come up with more differences between the two and we will update the post.
We already have a bunch of videos for Nokia 5800 on this blog, check out Nokia N97 in action this time right here-

Don’t you think that the 5800 will get the widgets on the home screen through a firmware upgrade? After all, they are both S60 5th edition phones…

I don’t think that the 5800 will get the widgets on the home screen. I think that this will be an exclusive option to Nseries Touch phones.

I sure love the N97 home creen widgets. Since they all S60 5th, hope someone can hack it into use for 5800.

The Nokia N97 will have a “comes with music” variant when released. More importantly the software on the N97 will be an improved version of that on the 5800; it will fully support the recently announced Nokia messaging and Nokia maps as well as Widgets and a lot more S60 5th Edition third party apps than exit right now or would in January 2009 when the 5800 is launched in the UK.
But not to worry folks, most of the developments on the Nokia N97 will be mutually beneficial to users of other S60 5th Edition devices (i.e. Nokia 5800 et al) as well.

N97 is worth the extra bucks
-bigger screen easier on eye, easier to scroll
-qwerty keyboard, makes a good stand for watching movies too
-better pics with 5mp camera with carl zeiss
-more videos, music on the bigger memory
-USB charging
If you want a lower end version, the 5800 works fine as well.

Sorry had to argue some of this,
-screen is bigger but have you seen by how much, about a cm… not really gunna strain your eyes as the screens are huge.
-Querty keyboard with small keys, still great but small keys i use the on screen alph numeric keyboard all the time anyway, and the 5800 is lighter so this is easier.
-camera isnt much better really, great camera but if your willing to pay another £100 at least! you could buy a better camera.
-music on the n97 sucks balls, its not very loud, wasted memory in my eyes as 16gb is pretty good, and music quality is much better,
?36gb? (not sure how much think its 36) is good for movies and stuff but not that much better i only ever watch a movie a few times then i get bored and download a new one.
-usb charging, wow…..
thanks for reading
jay
p.s. you may argue my comments as much as you like:)

n97 is kinda heavy and double in price and In My view nokia 5800 has almost all features of n97 and infact working on same OS
In Look wise and handling wise tube 5800 is more better than n97 too.
Even n97 was in same price, I went to 5800
Saturday, October 31st, 2009 at 12:11 am
I own both phones but the n97 is much better than the 5800, even my old n95 owns it.
Saturday, November 14th, 2009 at 12:08 am
the nokia 5800 is much better with a pen in side the phone, the screen is more sensitive that works with saymbian but n97 is a normal tuch screen phone yes i admit that the screen of the n97 in slitly bigger and the camera is 5mega pixels but the nokia 5800 comes with express music so that meens you can download unlimited music for ever !!!! i have both of these phones and i have to admit the n97s screen is noy that sensitive so some times you have to press an icon 2 times but n97 is also a good phone it has a keybord in it if you want me to say wich one is better is hard to say because both phones are good a i will still choose the NOKIA 5800!
Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 at 11:09 am
Hey guys
i’m jw if they both have the same screen sensitivity & type of screen
Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 at 5:03 am
witch 1 is better??

Neither is objectively better I suppose. Right now you can get the 5800 Nav edition at amazon for 199 after rebate, while the N97 is also remarkably low at 399 after rebate. Since the answer to which is better is subjective and involves weighing the differences laid out here and elsewhere, you just need to figure out what is most important to you. I will say that there have been a lot of complaints about the 5800 because it has relatively little internal memory and therefore cannot multitask very well before it runs out … thought I have read similar reports regarding the N97 as well. I am not as knowledgeable as a lot of the people on here, and am not sure if the 32 gigs of internal memory functions as RAM or just as storage space (i.e., whether it is analogous to memory or hard disk on a computer). Good luck. P.S. I went with the 5800 nav because of the price point—and because I had a bunch of Amazon gift certificates, it ended up costing me 21.00 USD.

I have have owend both, origanally had the 5800 and for the price what a gr8 phone and compared to the n97 ther isnt that much different, yea better camera and all that, but if i didnt get my n97 for cheap, i just cudnt c how i could justify the price difference, am sure its still a good £200 to £300 different. but the n97 is prety damm good.

I use personal nokia5800 and company BB8320.My oppinion is nokia5800=good for enjoy(cheap mobile, using for each day, not for business) ; but n97 I think is best for hard business and helpful for urgent/limit situation. I think N97 solve a lot of “smart mobile average” eg:excel/word/pdf and good qwerty for efficient/productive situation when time is important(excuse me for english lang)

I guess the 5800 can stand up to the N97. After all, the 5800 also has a full-sized keyboard–only that it’s in the screen. It works just the same. And the N-Gage thing is nonsense–I can still play games on the 5800, anyway.

Saturday, January 16th, 2010 at 1:11 am
5800 have an XpressMusic option much more … louder voice .. It have a keyboard on the screen
*the 97 it have it but u have to open the screen _dont forget that the screen may be BROKEN if u open it alot_ the memory is not a shame coz 16 G is inough
The 5800 have less apps than N97 in PC thing but 5800 have more music things
The camera in the n97 is better 5mega 3.2 mega in the 5800
But the size!! 5800 is smaller smoother but smaller screen
The n97 have a slide-able home screen u can open more than thing in the both !! But in the 97 u can switch the open apps from the home screen just like this and the N is more heavier
BUT THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME FEATURES !! But 97 IS MUCH MORE EXPENSEVE DOUBLE THE PRICE OF 5800
And rmmbr i have 5800 so maby i say more things about it but i know the N97 well i always use my frnds mobs soo good luck both are perfect

N97 is yes for the business/high-class people. I’ve got both phones and I found that the Nokia 5800 has WAY WAY WAY better music quality and loudness, the N97’s audio quality when playing music sounds like absolute shit to me. This is because i’ve come from the 5800 to the N97.
Sunday, January 24th, 2010 at 12:04 am
