Official YouTube Client for Nokia 5800 Finally Released
Filed Under Nokia 5800 Applications
Though our 5800 has been referred to as Tube 5800 ever since it was first announced, a dedicated YouTube client has been eluding the Nokia 5800 for long. The irony has been finally laid to rest as our friends at Google have finally released an official YouTube client for symbian fifth edition devices.
The official version number of this YouTube client is v2.2.9 and can be downloaded for free by pointing your mobile browsers to m.youtube.com. You should see a download link somewhere towards the bottom of the web-page. If you fail to spot the download link, you can also download the client from m.google.com on your mobile browser.

What we like:
- Finger touch optimised browsing
- Decent buffer speed
What we hate:
- Those giant soft buttons making a mockery of the 16:9 aspect ratio of our 5800s
- No options for commenting or uploading videos
- No login and hence no option of subscribing to favorite channels etc
Verdict
While we are happy to see a dedicated YouTube client on our Tube5800s, we are very much disappointed with its overall performance and lack of luster feature set. The mobile Youtube site does a much better job especially considering its full screen video capability. Even the buffer speed is much better on the mobile site.
The client doesn’t offer some of the most sought after features like login, commenting and uploading videos. Infact the only feature that the client can handle is “Flag” ing the videos, for everything else the mobile site is a better option.
We were really looking forward to this client but unfortunately it falls flat on its face and we would suggest you to skip this application and resort to the mobile site on the symbian browser for all your YouTube needs.
Still if you need to try the official Youtube client, point your mobile browser here- http://m.youtube.com/app.
Note: the official client may not be available in all countries as of now.
UPDATE:
We have uploaded the Youtube client for you here- Download Youtube client for 5800

No full screen on 5800. I’d rather view vids through the mobile site.
