Opera, probably the best known third party browser on the symbian platform keeps getting better by the day! After releasing the first beta of Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10 in early November, Opera has now released beta 2 of the two browsers, in just under a month. Somebody is losing sleep over enhancing the browsing experience on our 5800s!
In case you are wondering Opera Mini is the java version and Opera Mobile 10 has been coded in C++. Thats for the geeks; in layman terms Mini is a low end version and can be accessed from a much wider spectrum of mobile phones and Mobile is the high end version, accessible only by some smartphones and yeah our 5800 can use both. More details after the break.
Screenshots-
There have been a lot of bug fixes from the earlier beta 1 version along with the addition of download manager and opera link- the legendary Opera service which syncs bookmarks, and browser settings across desktop and mobile browsers. This is one of our favorite features and we are so glad that the beta 2 has now incorporated this into both Mobile 10 and Mini 5.
What we like?
- Opera Link
- Download Manager
- Faster page rendering
What we don’t like?
- Virtual keyboard kinda buggy (opened a non-English keyboard a couple of times during our testing)
Verdict
Opera seem to be pushing their browsers into the very competitive browser market with not one but two entries. Mini 5 and Mobile 10 are no doubt one of the better browsers available on the symbian platform today and are getting better with time. We are sure that the final releases will be much more robust and bug free from the present beta versions. If you want a seamless browser, experience, you gotta get the latest beta 2 versions of the browsers from Opera.

i’m using opera mobile 10 beta on my 5800. i have to say its great & sleek but it frequently hangs & won’t shut down when you exit. you have to restart your phone everytime it happens. its quite annoying & i do hope they iron this out on the final release. nevertheless, its a nice, speedy & cool browser.

i use opera mobile 10 beta on my 5800 and i think its quite good. Its shuts down fine on my phone, i only dont like that it doesnt load all webpages first time and you have to refresh it. This is when using wifi or gprs. Also if your loading a big page it says ‘memory full close some applications’ even if there are no other apps open. Maybe this beta 2 will sort out these problems

Can anyone give a user feedback on the “memory full, Close some application” warning has been taken care of in this version?

Seems to work alright for me with Tweets60 and FreeISMS running in the background.

I am running it on Nokia 5800 and it seems to run fine with no memory full errors like the first beta.
As a side note…Make sure that you try to install all of you applications on your memory card instead of your phone memory when the option comes up during installation. That way you less of the phone memory which also functions as RAM for the phone

This was not quite the most complete report of the new browser as kinetic scrolling – what every 5800 owner cries for – wasn’t even mentioned! Yes, Opera Mobile 10 delivers kinetic scrolling to our phones; for details look at http://www.opera.com/mobile/features/.

Opera mini 5 has changed my web experience on symbian. I only use symbian browser for flash sites.
Opera mobile 10 still has memory issues. I don’t really use it because there always memory problems if I’m using more than one program.
