Does the name eyeSight ring any bells for our Tube5800 followers? If it doesn’t let us remind you that it is the same company which released the magical eyeCall application which we gaveaway in one of our Tube5800 contests dating back to June 2009! We have come a long way indeed and so has eyeSight which recently released their music player-Moove, which does more than playing the music!

Perhaps the title of the post gave it away already, and if that didn’t the screenshot of Moove MP3 player welcome screen on the left should have. It’s been a while (three months to be specific), since Nokia last released a firmware update to their best selling touchscreen device-5800Xpress Music and lest you be thinking of Nokia abandoning it’s loyal customer base, we have an update for you. Infact it’s our Finnish friends who have released an update for the 5800 firmware, which to be honest caught us by surprise, considering the update frequency in the recent times for our 5800s.

The latest firmware is v50.0.005 and since Nokia have jumped from v40.*.* to v50.*.*, we are expecting some major improvements. The update is available for a select few product codes (spread across Europe, South America and Asia) at the time of drafting this post and is expected to hit the Nokia Update servers worldwide in a short matter of time. As seen with previous updates, v50.0.005 is available over both Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) and Nokia Software Updater (NSU). While we weren’t able to get the update on our 5800 ourselves, several of our 5800 friends across the globe have been alerting us on the update and we are wasting no time in updating our readers of the same. It’s been a while since the Sports tracker appeared in the Nokia Beta Labs, where it was a huge success. Such was the popularity of this app that it won the Best Mobile Internet Service Award in last year’s GSMA Global Mobile Awards. No wonder the app not only graduated from Nokia Beta Labs, Jussi Kaasinen and Ykä Huhtala, the developers of the app now head the Sports Tracking Technologies (STT), a spin-off company working on the award winning service.

Internet radio has been on the web since long and has catched up with the mobile platform off late. While the likes of Pandora and Last.fm rule the roost, there are several online radio stations beaming live radio to netizens across the globe.

However, internet radio is something that our 5800 has been intrinsically missing with the Symbian 5th edition OS lacking a dedicated internet radio client. Well, what are the third party developers for? HotmixRadio is one such client and a very good at it as it categorizes on the basis of popular genres for easy selection. 10×10! Is that a grid size or something? That’s what we first thought when we first saw this app at the ovi store. Intrigued by its name, we decided to take the plunge into the app and see what it has to offer and we are kinda glad we dived in, for 10×10 takes a fresh look at news, of which an awful lot is covered in several media today.

So what does 10×10 really do? True to its name it delivers “100 Words and Pictures that Define the Time” on your 5800s. So basically what we are looking at is photo journalism with a touch of difference for it’s delivered straight on to your 5800s. Sounds interesting, ain’t it? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to carry the entire Wikipedia in your pocket? Of course you have been able to do so with a high speed data connections but offline access to databases of this type has its own advantages: It’s much faster than using your data connection (if you’re lucky enough to have one) and always available. We can think of hundreds of scenarios where offline access would come handy (when traveling, in meetings, underground train, plane). Fortunately for us, WikiPock have sorted this one out with their application-WikiPock, which brings offline access to Wikipedia for 5800ers and more.

Now if you have ever stopped by the encyclopaedia section in a library, you would know how gigantic encyclopedic databases can be, but WikiPock does an amazing job of compressing the entire Wiki collection to just around 4.7 GB, yeah that’s right- 4.7 GB! Have you dropped by the Ovi store since last night? We have been trying in vain till now, for the store was being updated, preventing us and everyone else from accessing the store during the upgrade. Just when we were about to give up today, we were able to access the revamped store and boy, we are delighted by the latest version of the store.
