Reviews: What the World Has to Say About Nokia 5800?

We looked all around the web today to check what people are saying about Nokia 5800, how they are reviewing it, what their user experience is and if they are overall happy with their phone.

We checked the leading tech blogs, experts’ reviews, phone users forums/ communities, etc. and brought together for you what the world has to say about Nokia 5800 now after its release. Check out what are the experts’ comments as well as general users experience with Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Techradar.com rates Nokia 5800 as 4.5/5.0 on looks, ease of use, features, call quality and value but they felt the lack of multi-touch on device and the quality of earpiece as well as photo shoot was not impressive for them.

Mobilegazette.com concludes Nokia 5800 as- “The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a pretty good phone, it’s easy to use, comes with a capable web browser and excellent multimedia support and is frankly a lot of fun. The loudspeaker could be better, the camera isn’t as good as we would have hoped and you will be forever cleaning fingerprints off it.”

Experts at Thelink.co.uk found the phone quite interesting and well worth to wait for so long and they rated the phone 4 out of 5. They also wrote down a long comprehensive list of specs/features covering each and every basic to major feature the phone has.

Testfreaks has an interesting collection of Nokia 5800 reviews, collected from 111 sources in 20 countries. The average rating for Nokia 5800 comes to 9.2/10.0 which is awesome, while Iphone has a score of 8.7 there. Nokia 5800 emerged as the 4th most popular handset of Nokia and 5th most popular overall, across all brands.

Whatmobile says about Nokia 5800, “We’ve been waiting patiently for Nokia’s first touchscreen Series 60 smartphone, but it seems Nokia has had difficulty changing things to operate by fingertip operation instead of real buttons; it can be a little fiddly to input text. The larger screen resolution isn’t fully utilised by every application either, although the media player and web browser are obvious beneficiaries. The 5800 is very well featured, from a good camera to excellent video recording, plus content sharing options. It’s a cheap alternative to the iPhone, especially with the optional Comes With Music service for unlimited music downloads.” Rating 4/5.

T3 reviews it as, “A sterling effort from our Finnish friends and we cant wait for the N-series behemoth to be announced.” Rating 4 stars out of 5.

We feel the 5800 tube will continue to get more great feedbacks from the users and experts. However we expect from Nokia to pay more attention to the users criticisms/advices and avoid things like what we just saw in the recent US launch of the phone which we marked as ‘the poor launch of a great phone’.

Nokia should continue improving the device with updates like the recent enhancements they did on Nokia 5800 after users feedback. In last firmware udpates they made the touch experience more sensitive, improved the smoothness, activated the front camera as well for taking photos, application updates, geo-tagging, video/flash improvements, etc. Keep it up Nokia!!

    Great Phone!

useful applications are now popping up

    Best music phone for me

Camera is just average unlike N-series phones

Browser is also on the average side it would be much better if they can improve this on upcoming Firwmare updates

Call quality is average they should implement the noise reduction like Motorola’s crystal talk technology

For me what separates 5800 from other music phones is the battery life it can last for almost two days with heavy music playing.

I got my Nokia 5800 a month ago and have had nothing but trouble with it I have been in constant touch with nokia to no avail. I got it because it played music like an Ipod and had a GPS. I ride a motorbike and with the headphones in I thought I would be able to ride and listen to my music and use the GPS on trips. It constantly freezes and you have to stop remove your gloves and helmet and reboot the thing only to have to go through the same procedure 5 or 6 times on an hour ride. I would advise anybody thinking of getting a 5800 to think again. IT’S A PIECE OF JUNK!!!!

    Hello!
Just to clarify for the western country (Americans). Stylus here for Nokia 5800 is not the main tool to be use for the screen. It is just one of the selection for the user on how he use the screen. Try first before you say anything…
iPhone cannot recognize handwriting recognition while nokia 5800 does.
Westerners thought that iphone is the most modern phone in the world… but they didn’t know it doesn’t.
I know westerners are too behind in terms of technology.
    Example:
    1. iphone still cannot send mms…(backwards)
    2. iphone cannot send files through bluetooth. (I hope you know this term)
    3. iphone don’t have 2 way video calling. Why? because apple doesn’t know much about this and also the technology of the country.
    4. iphone still doesn’t have flash media on there OS.
    5. iphone doesn’t have automatic voice recognition.
    6. iphone cannot print directly to printer.
    7. iphone cannot send video files or stream to other devices in real time.
    8. HSDPA not yet in iphone and network.
    9. much much more…

All of the above are already a standard features in Europe and Asia mobile phones eight (8) years ago.
3g (3rd generation network) has already been established 5 years ago.

How many mobile phone companies from US? 2?
motorola- is there any other design? horrible design.
apple iphone- what are other phone aside from iphone? uhmmm nothing?

That’s all folks. Hope you understand that.
    Thank you.

Thanks Zen, a westerner here… What is the difference between the red/blue 5800 and the black 5800? There are a LOT of cheap black units on the market in North America.

i so love this phone. very useful features & a simple but beautiful design. I love the way you can download apps to suit your needs. its my mobile internet machine. whenever i get wifi signals, i can read my news, blogs or get updated with my friends on their social networking accounts. I changed most of the phones on my arsenal because of tall these reasons w/c means I have more than 1 5800 now & I’m very happy with it. long live 5800.

I think its a great phone, wi fi is really good, the os seems to need a little trimming bcos it is seems a bit slow but it handles apps quite well, comparing with star 3g i will definitly go for xm 5800 though corby pro seems a good choice it terms of look and user interface, but maybe the new firmware update ver 40 will remove some of these negative s, the updates are available now, though i have not personally downloaded it myself, there is also a strip down versions of xm overall I would say its a great phone, I have used many phones ofcourse not all of them in the pricey bracket but this is the the first time I have really felt proud and satisfied with I bought, XM 5800 rocks like as if the very Devil’s tail is on fire !
