Have you been missing that “Whac-a-Mole” game of your bulky old phone? Well, lets see if this new game, Speedtouch Lite, a flash based game, which recently appeared in the Ovi store can be a good substitute for “Whac-a-mole.”
You must be wondering if we have missed something here, as our Tube lacks a physical numpad for that “whacking” action but rest assured SpeedTouch Lite makes fair use of the Touchscreen capability of the symbian fifth edition OS. The game feels much better than the “Whac-a-mole”, as you actually get to touch the bubbles here as opposed to hitting on the num pad, which at times can be confusing.
Though the gameplay is similar to as in “whac-a-mole”, Speed Touch Lite has got rid of moles altogether. Seems like the developers realized that gamers may accidentally whack the screen and they definitely didn’t want us to abuse our 5800s. Instead Bernhard Aufreiter, the developer of Speedtouch, provides us bubbles to burst with a feeble touch.
Gameplay involves bursting as many bubbles as possible in the given time frame, which gets shortened with every miss. So basically, all you need to do is burst the bubbles appearing on the screen by touching them and try not to miss any bubbles. As you might expect, the bubble frequency increases with time, making the game exciting and fast-paced.
What is the next thing you look for in a game after exciting gameplay? Scores, right? Everyone loves to flaunt their highscores in different games and Speedtouch definitely lets you do just that, if you are able to beat certain pre-set high scores.
While the game has been impressive so far, it does have a few bugs: If you happen to tap on the “i” button, it displays information about the game and programmer but there is no way out of this screen (3rd screenshot below). So basically you are stuck with this screen and the only way out is to restart the phone. Hope that gets fixed soon. UPDATE: Thanks to Link777, turns out that we didn’t tried hard enough to find a way around it. You just need to tap anywhere on the screen and it goes back to the game screen.
Another little drawback of this game is that its not perfectly suitable for finger touch gameplay, as our fingers tend to block a part of screen during gameplay and hence you would want to rely on stylus for setting a high score. But overall, its quite an addictive game and you will try beating high scores one after another for hours.

Speedtouch Lite can be downloaded for free from the ovi store (login first) or from the ovi client on your 5800s.

On the informationscreen, just push on the screen to come back to the menu. No ‘bug’ there. Great game. The finger block the view makes it more fun.
