The last few days we have been pretty busy catching up with the application updates on our 5800s, needless to say with hundred odd applications that we have on our 5800s, it’s by no means an easy task. However, it gives us great joy to play around with the latest apps and we deem its our duty to keep our readers updated with the latest apps as well.
Two of the most popular 5800 apps, which we are sure are installed on every 5800 out there in the market today- Google Maps and Ovi store client were updated recently. Hit on the jump button to see what new features these updates bring to your 5800s.
Google Maps
Probably the most popular navigation app on the web today, Google maps was updated to v3.3.1, further enhancing the usability of this app. The latest update brings synchronisation of starred items on the web, which comes in pretty handy when you are traveling around the city. Just star the places of interest on your desktop browser, before you start from your home and use Google maps application to make sure you don’t miss any of the places you starred earlier.
If you have been following the Google maps religiously, you should have noticed that the update to v3.3.0 was released just a couple of days ago but it did have some bugs and as you know the folks at Google are super fast when it comes to fixing bugs and here they release the v3.3.1 with the Layers bug of v3.3.0 fixed.
Get the latest version of Google Maps by pointing your mobile browser to m.google.com
Ovi Store Client
The Ovi store was updated to v1.05 (436) and needless to say it brings in a bunch of improvements and bug fixes. We weren’t able to get our hands on an official changelog as such but we would definitely say that the store is now much smoother than the previous version.
You should see the update window when you open the ovi store and if you don’t see any notification window, you can get the update by pointing your mobile browsers to store.ovi.com.

I don’t know what the hell is wrong with my 5800. Since I updated it to firmware 31.0.0.101, my Ovi Store app is not working. It says ‘Initialisation failed’ and I have to close it. I tried un-installing it and re-installing, but doesn’t help. Any ideas, Admin?

The new client is now incompatible with e51. On the 5800 I keep getting a notification of an update even though i have the latest version.

Any of you experience the phone auto restarting or switching off once in a while either by itself or when unlocking the keypad, lauching the browser or rotating the phone?

Nabeel, I have the same problem. Or at least I had, I’m gonna try out this new version to see if this problem is fixed. I reported it to Nokia and they still didn’t give me an answer, and I reported it like 2 months ago.
I’ll report back if I get any updates.
