Ever since we say the voice command feature of the iPhone we have been hoping we would get that function on iPhone killer-5800s. We are not actually surprised that the best selling phone in Europe got an app for using voice commands on our 5800s.
Vlingo is one of the coolest apps we have seen on our 5800s. Not only is it an excellent app for controlling your 5800 over a voice commands, it also users to update their status on popular networking sites of facebook and twitter. More details after the break.
Screenshots-

The first thing to note is that the application needs network access for faster processing of voice commands. The data usage is quiet low averaging around 1MB for over 150 voice commands.
Some of the key features of the app are:
- Send and reply to emails and text messages
- Search the Web
- Dial the phone
- Look up contacts
- Send a “note to self”
- Voice updates to Facebook & Twitter status updates
- Tell A Friend
- Read-back of the full text or email message that was spoken
The app can also be used as an application launcher for default symbian applications as well as third party applications like facebook, google maps, Opera and Vlingo. The list is expected to grow longer over time. The app is available in two versions: a free version which supports all the above features but comes with a limitation of sending 5 text or email messages and the paid version which supports unlimited messages.
What we like?
- Voice Control for most of the commonly used applications and commands
What we don’t like?
- Data charges may spoil the fun of widepsread usage of this app
Verdict
Vlingo is one of the most innovative solutions we have seen on the symbian fifth edition platform today. The app as such has come a long way owing to its success in the iPhone platform. The free version is a must have while the paid version priced at £12.99 may find some takers among the advanced users.

Every Symbian phone from Nokia does have a voice control.
Article mentions these features:
* Send and reply to emails and text messages
* Dial the phone
* Look up contacts
All of those are possible using eg. 5800XM’s voice control.

@Mika- Read the article again, it also includes many more features which you cant do with the default voice control options that come with the 5800. You need a stand alone advanced application like this to perform those tasks

I’m from India and when I go to Vlingo website to download the app, it says it is no available for 5800XM. However I managed to get the app off of internet and when tried to install, it prompts to push the button located between the volume keys and therez no obvious button on the device. How do I set it up on 5800XM. Is there a version specific to 5800XM?
