Microsoft starts preparing itself for the 5800 Era, and there it is the updated Windows Live MSN Messenger for Nokia 5800. This new version of Windows Live Messenger is compatible with Nokia’s S60 5th Edition phones like Nokia5800 and the upcoming Nokia N97 as well.
The features are pretty much same as what you have on your PC version of Live Msgr. You can chat with your Windows Live/MSN friends and check your Windows Live Hotmail emails.

This chat client is expected to be available soon on the download section in your 5800 XpressMusic but if you can’t wait to get your hands on it, here it is right here for you. The zip also includes the earlier Live Messenger version for S60 V3 Smartphones. Check update2 below for download link.
UPDATE-1:
The Windows Live Messenger application is having login problems as on date. We are not sure how long this will take them to fix the issues. Alternatively, you can check out the chat /IM applications pack we have here for Nokia 5800- Chat Applications/ Instant Messengers for Nokia 5800
UPDATE-2 (Nov 08, 2009):
The Windows Live Messenger is now officially released for Nokia 5800. Check the details and download link here.

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Guys, The application file we have here is fine and thousands of people have downloaded it in last 20 days and using it daily.
But today there are users reporting problems logging in. Maybe its a temporary server problem which should get resolved shortly.
Lets wait and see..
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 at 9:12 pm
hi
thx 4 the rapid answer…
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 at 8:15 am
is this application free to use?
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
Hey guys,
I can confirm from personal use that an update became available on sunday night/monday morning, however upon activating the link offered to download the file the browser was pointed to a blank/non-functioning page.
My guess is that due to a sudden influx of users the beta update has been made location specific to reduce server load and that users on networks or IPs other than those in the defined geographic area have been denied access.
I’m with Admin, just ride it out and see what happens… if you need Messenger on the go there is always http://mobile.msn.com
Thursday, February 5th, 2009 at 12:52 am
Sy,
Thanks for your input.
I dont think its denied access to some particular geographic location(s). I checked the forums, its the prob everywhere. Users from all over have started reporting problems with this app.
It was a nice little app, hope it gets well soon..

Just checked with my friend in Singapore, it works in Singapore. Not in UK. It seems it is being blocked geographically.
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 at 12:00 am
still dont work =((
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Guys, it seems like this application is dead now. There is no official word from Microsoft about the bug and we can’t do anything in it as its their product.
I will soon post some alternative apps for you guys.
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 at 1:35 am

Saturday, February 28th, 2009 at 4:04 am
… but what’s more interesting, old version of messenger works, logins correctly and updates WL contacts on my Nokia N95.
I could live without messenger itself but I depend on WL contacts. I have them on all my computers and thelephones and it works great. What I do miss is the ability to load WL contacts to my 5800 and update them via WL sync.

Hi, I’m in El Salvador, Central America. Same problem here. Old version of Messenger 1.1.8161 from 2007 still works though.
Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 at 2:21 am
Omg come on this is not even a new phone. I bought it yesterday thinking ok it’s been out and about a few months now they probably fixed any bugs and so on.
i had the Touch was ok happy for it, so the day the touch dual come i ran down and got it right away .
.
But no msn messenger client ?
Is that not a Standard feature these days ?
Other than this I must say I’m for the first time happy with a touch screen.
this is coming from a dreadful HTC experience
i get home power it up and all looks nice. then I start looking for the WLAN function only to find out that its been removed :O ???
i know that i should have read up on the specs and don’t start replying you noob i know.
But still to remove that was really lame. I work in a computer service/rma department so I didn’t go back and get all angry at the shop guy hehe after all I was the guilty one right :O
So anyways that’s that nice phone Nokia just fix the MSN please!
i agree with –> Syairazi
Truely dispointed Nokia fan
Sunday, April 19th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
i havent tried this, but it isnt nokias fault. it isnt very easy to install a new program for phones you know. just wait for their updates. dont blame nokia and the wifi in mine works just right. maybe its your WIFI the problem not the phone. 5800 is a great phone but why dont you try ebuddy? they have a msn program for the phone and i downloaded it already.
wait for nokias updates, im sure theyre fixing other programs too.

I installed at the beginning the version 1 of this software found on Mobile9 website and had no issue to log in through 3G and also through WLAN connections… Then the application proposed me to update and I was stupid enough to accept. Now the version is the version 5 and the application tells that it “can not allow log in” each time I try to use a WLAN connection, keeping 3G possible. It is a stupid limitation !!!
Does someone know how to remove it ?
Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 at 2:49 pm
HI, Im in London UK, I came across live messenger at http://www.symbian-freak.com for my nokia 5800 and downloaded it straight away, as i really need messenger on thego… it installed fine but when I go to login I also get “cannot allow log in” ….Im SO dissapointed, when will this work ?
Thursday, June 4th, 2009 at 1:43 am
This app doesn’t work from Dubai either. Loaded it up on my brand new 5800 only to find 2 people spinning around my screen happily until it says “can not allow login”. I can certainly imagine what they mean by “all in one place”… more like the can.
Sunday, June 21st, 2009 at 5:49 pm
The reason that it doesnt work, is because version 5 of the program can only connect using gprs and not wifi.. correct me if im wrong..
Wednesday, July 8th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
I think we can not connect because “someone” told mircorsoft that if you are connected using WLAN and if you chat or make a call or anything, than the Mobile Operator gets nothing out of it, it’s all free… The same thing happened when Nokia announced that skype will come installed in the N97. It was unacceptable for the mobile operators cause if were are connected using WLAN there’s no money for them…
Saturday, July 11th, 2009 at 1:11 am
I’m agree with you IceChelsea, here in Mexico it’s the same sh**t!
I think we have great mobile devices, we spend the money because it worths… and the mobile operators all around the world can’t leve the services grow up, that gets me pissed off!
Sunday, July 12th, 2009 at 1:10 am
Well I also have installed it on my Nokia N97
but it also say can not allow login..
that suxx big time…
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 at 11:35 pm
Same problem with N97 in Estonia!
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
ok, so i’m a noob. I have downloaded the software onto my computer.. How do i get it onto my phone? And which file do i put it in?
Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 at 7:25 am
I LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 at 1:22 am
for those who have problems try to install “Slick”. It’s one of the best mobile MSN programs i’ve ever tried! expecially for the graphic, is very optimized and you can see a lot text lines on the display! Better than Fring, that I use only for Voip calls with a viopcheap account.
PS: I’m not paid from SLick programmers!
I simply find it beautiful!
Greetings from Kenya!

It works extremely well, however quite a lot of characters appear as a square block, and some of the app appears to be in Chinese. Is there are fully implemented English edition available?

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 at 12:13 am
i downloaded this to my phone and when i do the setup it basically comes up with the terms and conditions and i click accept then it takes me to the next stage and says type in my email address and password and i do so then when i click next it says: “Windows Live is temporarily unable to connect. This may be because your phone is in ‘Offline Mode’ or you do not have a data connection. Please check your access point and network setting.” … my phone is NOT on offline mode so what can i do to resolve the problem because it wont let me sign on otherwise! x

I don’t understand this fuss over MSN Messenger. I downloaded it from Nokia’s Ovi Store, and it works like a charm. No glitches, no bugs, no nothing. Actually, I was impressed! After installing the MSN Messenger, I noticed that you get a separate tab in messaging titles Hotmail, and you can set it to automatically synchronize after a set period of time (although I don’t recommend this. My network provider’s data package scheme is a credit guzzling machine!). And another thing to note was that in the Contacts menu, you can notice a tab with the windows logo which lists all your Messenger contacts.
The only drawback I find is that I cannot make voip calls from this app.

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010 at 8:59 pm
everything works flawlessly minus the fact that i can’t sync my email. is there a solution to this. i’m using an n97. ciao
Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 at 6:05 pm
update: it worked very well-for several days, then it quit. Everytime i try login, it say ‘check connections or settings’. I need this app quite bad. Does anyone hear of any solutions? Ciao
Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
I downloaded this app, and it is very good. It is great for MSN Messenger, but thats it. It created an Hotmail account on my phone (but since I use a gmail login) I don’t have a hotmail account, and I am trying to remove it but can’t find out how.
There is no mailbox called Hotmail to delete. Does anyone know who to delete the hotmail email account it creates in the Messages section?
And if I create a new message while in the Hotmail section, the Back button does not work and I need to switch of my phone.
Does anyone have a solution to deleting the Hotmail Email account it creates?
Thanks

I had the windows live messenger installed right after it released, and was working very well until few weeks ago I updated my phone software and windows live messenger won’t load any of my contact, so I tried to remove and reinstall it, and it won’t be found in OVI store no more, and I used the link to download from search engine, after installed, i tried to open the program, and it restart my phone and never open windows live messenger
Please help me with this, i already tried restore factory setting, and then remove and reinstall windows live messenger, but no luck, thanks for any help
also, anyone can tell me how to add chinese font on this phone, I couldn’t see the chinese word on my txt or website, thanks!
